The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is an annual event hosted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, covering a distance of 628 nautical miles. The race is known for its challenging and prestigious long ocean races, with boats traveling from Sydney, New South Wales, on Boxing Day to Hobart, Tasmania. The race is organized by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania.
The 78th edition of the historic race will go down in history as a relentlessly competitive event. Facilities include Constitution Dock, north Elizabeth Street Pier, and Kings Pier Marina, which provides fifty-four floating berths for vessels up to 17 meters in length. In 2004, only 59 yachts completed the race.
The race has been a popular event for the past 70 years, with a focus on fresh seafood at nearby floating shops. The 1946 SHYR fleet moored in Constitution Dock after the race, and Captain Parry’s other vessel, Windeward Bound, is moored at the docks in Hobart.
To mark the 75th race, the museum has developed a program of exhibitions in and around its site, including the Tasman Light Gallery and Yots Café. The event has become one of the most famous yacht races in the world, starting in Sydney, New South Wales, on Boxing Day.
