Carnival Cruise Line, the world’s first cruise ship, was purchased from Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd. in 1972 and sailed for the line from 1972 to 1993. Carnival Firenze, the line’s first revenue ship, was scheduled to sail on May 2, 2024, with a 5-day round-trip Mexican Riviera itinerary.
One of the first ships to sail, Carnival Liberty, will embark on a 3-day voyage to The Bahamas from Port Canaveral (Orlando), FL, on June 1, 2021. Carnival Cruise Line also introduced the first passenger vessel to exceed 100,000 tons, the 101,353-ton Carnival Destiny, at the time the world’s largest cruise ship.
On March 23, 2023, Carnival Cruise Line opened reservations for the inaugural season of its next new ship, Carnival Firenze, which will begin sailing year-round from Long Beach, California. Carnival Jubilee officially set sail on December 23, 2023, with over 6,000 guests aboard. The first sailing offered by Carnival departs on February 6, 2021, on a week-long cruise to the western Caribbean.
As of June 2024, Carnival Cruise Line operates a fleet of 27 ships, including two ships from PO Cruises Australia in 2025 and five new ships. Mardi Gras, the first Carnival ship ever powered by Liquefied Natural Gas, enters service from Port Canaveral.
Carnival Cruise Line has been around since 1972, with the first cruise set sail on March 11, 1972. The company is excited about its latest ships, Carnival Jubilee® and Carnival Firenze ™, which are now sailing from Long Beach.
