The Hawks couple, Thomas and Jackie, were killed in a scheme to steal their boat and other assets. They were taken by surprise and overpowered on the Well Deserved, bound with duct tape, handcuffed to the boat anchor, and tossed into the ocean while still alive. The couple were last seen alive on November 15, 2004, heading out of the harbor. The yacht returned but they did not, and neither body has ever been recovered.
Skylar Deleon was arrested in December 2004 on money laundering charges initially due to his claim of buying the Well Deserved with cash he had obtained from drug sales. The Hawks couple had spent their lives working and were ready to retire and spend more time with their newborn grandson when they were brutally murdered on their 55-foot yacht. In August 2001, the Hawks couple sold their house and shifted to a yacht, referred to as their dreamboat, which moored in Long Beach. The fifth conspirator, Alonso Machain, pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
The Hawks’ sons, Ryan and Matt, are now facing the challenge of relocating and selling the yacht. The supposed buyer and murder suspect, Skylar Deleon, sold their yacht in November and drove off, but they haven’t been seen since. The Well Deserved, the boat of the slain Hawks couple, has not found a new owner due to the bad economy.
