GameStop offers a product replacement plan (PRP) that covers various aspects of gaming equipment, including manufacturer defects, power surges, normal wear and tear, dust, heat, and humidity. The PRP covers accidental damage from handling such as drops, cracks, and spills for eligible devices. It is a secondary coverage, covering defects in materials and workmanship but not covered by another warranty or insurance.
GameStop does not offer a lifetime warranty on any of its items purchased in-store. The warranty coverage provided by GameStop is limited and varies, and games are excluded unless they are damaged due to poor installation or arrive defective. If a system is defective due to normal use and covered with a PRP, it can be exchanged once within a 12-month period.
The PRP covers defects like overheating and not accidental coverage. In Ohio and Oregon, the warranty does not cover damages, scratches, and breaks in the game disc. If the game is lost, the customer is responsible for sending in the item.
In summary, GameStop’s PRP provides extended assurance above and beyond the manufacturer’s warranty for new video game console purchases. The PRP covers various aspects of gaming equipment, including power surges, water damage, and accidental damage from handling. However, the warranty does not cover damages, scratches, or breaks in the game disc.

I love how Kim has become more open and confident!!!! She has always been an inspiration to me!! I love how she crafts and does art and she can find such an amazing partner!!! To see the difference from a while ago to now is so fun to see!!! Some parts of youtube are cringe and horrible. But the part where people gain confidence from making articles without a horrible ego is great!
The reason why the game boxes/cases are empty at Gamestop is because as a failsafe incase a thief tries to steal the games on the shelves, but, as you said, Gamestop keeps cases/boxes on the shelf for advertisement. What REALLY bugs game collectors is when Gamestop gives them a generic Gamestop game case to hold the game in (instead of it’s original case it came from initially) or even not giving them a safe container to hold their game they bought, running the risk of the game being damaged due to not having a proper way to store it
I love my local GameStop, but I miss the previous manager. Don’t know his name but he was so great, and he never asked if I wanted to upgrade to Pro despite seeing me almost every two weeks(probably because I mainly bought small/clearance items and asked if they had certain items that weren’t on the floor).
All of the GameStops I’ve ever been to have had really friendly, helpful employees who are totally okay with you geeking out with them over the latest releases. One of them even complimented me on my manners one time, and that made me feel nice 🙂 Oh, and the phrase you were thinking of is “practiced what they preached.”
The empty cases on the shelf thing. I reckon it wouldn’t hurt to put up a small disclaimer sign saying something like “the games on the shelves do not reflect stock numbers and may still be unavailable”. I feel like that would resolve a number of confused and frustrated people. I still like to take boxes to the counter because I usually get less popular games and sometimes the staff don’t know what it is I’m getting. I also recently had an experience where my brother took a pre-owned FIFA 21 to the counter because it was fairly cheap. The sticker on the case covered the Xbox One logo and you could only see the Series S/X logo. The staff then thought that the game was only for Series S/X and they had no “just Xbox One” versions left. Pretty silly considering that they should know – being game store employees – that new Xbox games work on both platforms and have ‘Xbox One/SeriesS/X’ on the box. It wasn’t even an obscure piece of knowledge it should be taught to every employee.
I liked my Gamestop before I moved, I moved several states south and had a completely different experience. I was looking for a specific game that I had checked online before I went in that they had in stock. I know checking online isn’t always correct that they had it in store but when I went in to get it they told me I had no idea what I was talking about and that the game I was looking for didn’t exist. When I asked them to check in their computer because I do in fact know that the game exists they told me to stop pretending I knew what I was talking about, when I was mentioning a game that didn’t exist. (I assumed this was because I was a female.) I proceeded to drive an extra 10 minutes further from my house and picked the game up from my local Best Buy that same day. I talked to an employee at the best buy about my experience because I was infuriated and had just left that store and the guy told me that most of the best buy employees had worked at that gamestop but had left because the manager was rude, condescending and sexist. I have not set foot in a gamestop since. I miss the gamestop in my home town, they were all nice people, it just depends on what the store is like I guess.
Hilarious article, I am myself working in a gamestop in Canada and Ive been in so many of those same situation, People complaining about the price we give for games or the game boxes we have to keep in the game section even if we don’t have them anymore. Even the bathroom situation, I lived it and we had to explain to the customer we can’t let them use it cause they can’t go in our backstore. Gamestop can be a cool store when you have people loving working there !
I Just went last week and this lady in front of me in line was complaining about them not wanting to accept a return of the monopoly switch game without a receipt. Like she really expected to get over $20 for returning that crap game that was clearly used already without a receipt in hand and the manager came over and offered $13 for some reason and SHE STILL WASNT HAPPY.
I have a love-hate relationship with GameStop. When me and my brother went to Miami last year we looked up that a GameStop was close by where we were shopping and we went to. However it it was all locked up as if it were closed, yet if that was the case why was there a guy just reading some Gaming monthly magazine? Even as we tried to gain his attention to communicate with him through the door he blatantly ignored us as if just expecting us to go away. We were just kids who wanted some games so you can’t blame us for trying, also if he’s going to not do anything the least he could have done was shake his head no or maybe turned the neon OPEN sign off or something?
I completely back up the man who said he was charged for a membership he didn’t want. My place has a free and then the pro. When I asked I was cool with the free membership and instead the employee still charged me 15 bucks for the pro and used my prior information. Same thing, I went back and complained and he told me there was no refunds or any way to reverse it. Now if I ever go to GameStop for games, cause I don’t do trade ins anymore, I literally tell them no for everything and just give me the base items with no warranties or useless garbage.
I’ve legit gone to Gamestop and experienced: 1. selling a statue from a case, box was so bad the figure fellout on the ground in the parking lot. (supposedly “New”) 2. My Gamestop rewards card numbers were stolen by an employee (I had almost 100k of points) and the GM told me “we will sort it” I never got anything to this day 6 years later. 3. bringing a brand new copy of a game and finding out they open the copies, so they definately aren’t sealed and likely not even new. 4. Bring a used copy up to the counter and getting a different and worse case with 0 case art and in place was some garbage sharpie’d peice of paper. I can go on all day dudes, been a collector for almost 15 years and Gamestop is the absolute LAST place I will ever go for games. Just my experience. The story about Rewards cards may have not been true in this case, but I can tell you from experience that I have been signed up for rewards without my consent. Camelot331 on Youtube can confirm this is a thing.
I bought my boyfriend a GameCube style switch controller from GameStop last Christmas and when the employee told me it was an empty box on the wall and I’d have to order it, I literally had no problem with that 😂 I feel like only people that haven’t worked in retail don’t understand that they still leave displays because we’re not in the Stone Age, they’re not crafting them from scratch in the back
I go to GameStop for one of two things, a pre owned console, or an exclusive. I still remember when I tried to buy a new copy of Sonic Mania Plus, and they made me pay full price for them to take the display copy, and shove it inside the mania plus sleeve with the book. I go home and the book was somehow already in bad shape as multiple pages were water damaged. Also like, what luck do you have, I could sell the latest Mario game and not even get $30 back for the $60 game that never decreased in price. Look up Mario Odyssey on their trade site, I don’t get where that “fair” trade in value is from tbh.
I don’t do reviews on anything but since we are on this topic, and this fun article..lol..what’s up with GameStop trying to sell you a “new game”,but then you see them go pull out a yellow CD envelope thing and then the game cases, and handed it to you charge at GameStop retail price? Lol WTF….what happened to the plastic wrap? I am sure if I was to return a game that had a plastic wrap originally; even though i didn’t put it in a game slot, they wouldn’t give me my money back.
My biggest issue with GS is too often they don’t have what I’m looking for. Went in for a PS5 controller, was told the box is only on the shelf because Sony pays for advertising. Then was asked if I wanted to preorder one of the new colors. Went next door to Target, which had about a dozen PS5 controllers.
I’ve worked at a GameStop for four years and this is all true. One time I had a guy try to trade in his Xbox one s, the thing was filthy and smelly. When I went to plug it in and make sure it worked properly I noticed a dead rotted cockroach in the Ethernet port. I looked inside the little holes the Xbox has in the side and… yup saw more dead bugs. I immediately gave it bad and said ” can’t take it, it has dead bugs inside.” The costumer said “okay” like if having dead bugs inside was a normal thing. While I worked there I saw some crazy thing, had a lot of pissed off people yet at you because you can’t take in their 10 year old games that no one wants. Or even ouch the door on their way out.
I worked at GameStop two years ago. It wasn’t too long of a gig, but it was a dream job I had as a side job and I can honestly say so many customers just got under my skin as someone who didn’t even work there full time. I remember a customer coming in asking for a PS3 controller and getting so upset that we didn’t have them in stock. And then my manager had a complaint from this guy. Sucks that so many customers just treat us like we’re an jerks for being “inept” or having their exact need. Not in a rude way but so many customers think they habe so much privilege over others including the workers
Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person that actually liked my local GameStop. I was going in there every pay day, sometimes more often than that. I bought so many games under the 4 for $20 and other promos, that I actually started buying games for consoles I didn’t own, but intended to eventually. When I finally bought an Xbox 360 and a Wii U I already had a lot to play. I love my GameStop. I also made friends with some of the employees during the Amiibo craze and they would text me when they got in new shipments or restocked hard to find Amiibo.
So, it was around Christmas time last year and my grandmother wanted to know what I wanted. So I told her what games I wanted and on that list was the Final Fantasy VII remake. They ordered it online and when Christmas came I got the wrong game. I didn’t make a fuss because I was brought up that way so I said thank you but she saw a confused look on my face when I opened it up. She asked why and I told them and she was not really mad but aggravated. They shipped the wrong game, they shipped Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. So we looked at a lot of different GameStops till we found one that had Final Fantasy. And to this day….still haven’t finished the bomb section
Gamestop: The company that took the wrapper off of their brand new (and exclusive second run) copies of the Metroid Prime Trilogy to make new copies look impossible to find, then marked them up through the roof by pretending they had rare used copies of the first run. But, they forgot to remove the unused Nintendo rewards cards inside and the cases were plastic, not tin like the original run. So, they were caught red-handed… scamming customers. Or am I the only one that remembers that?
Went to buy a Funko Pop figure at gamestop. The person working the front kept hastling me to put $5 reserve on any game. Told them I was not interested. This person was a manager mind you. Well they kept insisting and I told them I was going to leave if he didn’t drop it. He said he was not going to sell me the figure unless I put 5 down on the game reserve. I left without my figure. Apparently this was common at that location as others I know have told me they had similar instances occur.
For whatever reason GameStop holiday 2020 decided for us to remove all actual game cases on the floor, replace them with display cover art, and it did not matter if we had the stuff in stock or not because WE CAN GET THAT ORDERED FOR YOU! So, holiday 2020 was so stressful for employees and parents coming in trying to find gifts. Luckily that idea was quickly reverted, but sadly it was too late for the mess it caused.
I’m actually really lucky that my local GameStop is amazing, in large part because of the staff there. They go the extra mile with customers and they know their regulars. Their manager told me they’re actually one of the most profitable stores in the whole company. Just goes to show that good customer service should be rewarded way more than it ever is.
somewhere around 2015, i traded in my xbox360 pro and an old wii with a couple games and controllers expecting to get like 100 bucks and they gave me 250 for everything. i considered it a success. also ive never had any issues with customer service at a gamestop. the few near me, the employees are friendly and helpful
Just walked into a game stop. Mentioned game pass (which thinking about it was a mistake) and promptly got yelled at by the employee how play station is better. I was there buying used versions of PS4 exclusives. I own all consoles and PlayStation has better exclusives. But wow the amount of hate from an employee was pretty incredible.
My review of one random GameStop employee: went in to purchase the Final Fantasy VII remake and at the register he asked if I’d played the original. When I said no, he told me I should, to which I thought we were having a conversation and mentioned I wasn’t interested but wanted to try the remake cause it was like FF15, which I enjoyed. He immediately went on to explain to me why FF15 and all new games in the series suck and how I should play the originals for a real gaming experience. I said no I will not be doing that, bought my game, and left.
You would think getting the wrong game would be an easy fix…but apparently it’s not. I’ve had it happen on more than one occasion (I do check my games every time now before leaving the store) I’ve paid for sequel games but recieved the older versions and was told that I must have switched the game at home and they won’t do anything about it.
A story from someone at microwave society: one day he used an Xbox 360 game disc but the Xbox didn’t play it so he takes it out. Turns out the Xbox carved a ring into the silver side of the disc so he took it to GameStop to get a replacement. They bought it from him to sell it second hand. This is why he doesn’t trust GameStop.
My gamestop was great. They had a trade in 3, get an extra 20$ credit. I brought in around 400 ps2 games. Left with a new xbox one and 20+ games. Next week, i got them to let me in early at a midnight release, and brought barbecue and kahlua and irish cream milkshakes. We also burned one in the back. No clue what game was on midnight release, but the two angry customers that were waiting outside dropped their frowns when i shared the bbq. 😋
I have two Gamestops I’ve visited. One of them is abit farther away, but that one isn’t corrupted about money as the other one. The farther away one who charge less for used games to sell, while the one abit nearer refuses to put used games at anything but full retail price. Unfortunately, the latter takes less time to drive to.
I’ve had many great times at gamestop. Sadly, the business model they go for nowadays doesn’t appeal to me as a customer. I can remember one time I got the wrong game from a gamestop employee and it actually turned out to be much better than the one I shopped for so I just kept it. One time I bought a gamecube from them for $30 and when I got home and was about to put a game in saw that someone had left Metroid Prime inside on accident. Awesome stroke of luck there. One time I was returning a defective game and they only had one other copy in the store. So the store manager and I had a race to see who could find the game first in a huge bin of games. Another time I was stopping by a local shop on the way to my friend’s house for a play session. I had recently bought Mass Effect 1 and 2. Still had them in the bag with receipt. At checkout the employee questioned me about the bag and after seeing the two games were more expensive than the one I was buying at the time he offered the new game to me for free. Using a buy 2 get 1 deal, he was able to return the games I had, resell them to me, and add the new game for free. Great memories from gamestops little mistakes and some great employees at the stores. Sadly, these things just don’t happen anymore. The stores don’t really feel like game stores.
“I can’t afford to go here” I understood that, because every time I go to a gamestop they pressure me to buy stuff. I can never go in and just browse. Their whole brand is built around outdated sales tactics and it’s not consumer friendly. A local gamestore or amazon is more practical and will probably have more in stock unless you want to buy game merch over actual games/systems. I don’t hate gamestop I just think it’ll be a breath of fresh air when they go out of business.
yeah the GameStop stuff is pretty cool to hear about..I for one would listen to more.. even a podcast if there were enough stories???? I’m not alone when I say more Kim commentary is welcome. your regular articles like top 10s or whatever are probably better alone, you know, it keeps a certain pace. where as, these type of articles are more relaxed while keeping an even pace. I hope that made sense lol.. what Im trying to say is im a big fan and I’ve been around since the beginning so I’ve seen most of your articles. If you’re asking people like that if they like these types of articles then i would say yeah.. but also most of us watch as much as wii do because of your ” go with the flow, just do what makes me happy” attitude/atmosphere. Sorry, that felt longwinded. lol.. Long point short, we like when you like what you’re doing. always have, always will. Game On!!
