What Happened To Tattoo Yachts?

Tattoo Yachts has ended production of the 26 and is currently not producing any new boats. They are relocating due to outgrown facilities and will be out of production until a new location is set up. In the interim, they will focus on completing the Tattoo 22. The company has recently sold the 303-footer Tatoosh, which was listed for 90 million in February 2021 after an extensive refit.

The new owners rebranded the company as Tattoo and moved to a new construction facility in Florida. They also produced the 2015 Tattoo 26 (following on to the popular MacGregor 26M) produced in Stuart, Florida by Roger MacGregor’s family. The original owner purchased the boat brand new direct from Tattoo Yachts.

In the meantime, they are relocating as they have outgrown their facility. They will be out of production until a new location is set up. The first Tattoo 22 hull and deck were pulled out of the molds last week, and they look even better than they had hoped.

One user, 1st Sail, wrote that after Tattoo ceased to manufacture dealers still had inventory for some time. They argue that they owe them nothing and that the forum does not stand as a sales or promotion outlet for either company. They collectively admire many motor trawlers with auxiliary sail but reject these because they are entry level boats pretending to be yachts.

Roger MacGregor retired in 2013, closing the Costa Mesa factory and ending production. Simultaneously, his daughter Laura MacGregor Sharp incorporated Tattoo into the company. Sailing and motor boating on one boat, the concept has a name: MacGregor. Now the Americans are producing as Tattoo Yachts.
