What Happened To Solarwave Yachts?

In 2009, the Solarwave 46 was launched as the first prototype of a fully solar-electric, self-sufficient ocean-going catamaran. Since then, these electric yachts havecruised thousands of nautical miles, performing flawlessly under various weather conditions. The Solarwave-Yachts shipyard now offers three sizes: 54, 64, and 74 feet. The Swiss company, Solarwave Solar-Sailing, is an independent solar power pioneer that has developed a range of fully self-sufficient solar-powered yachts.

Silent Yachts began research into solar yacht technologies in 2004 and constructed its first fully self-sufficient solar-powered yacht, the Solarwave 64. The Solarwave 64 is slightly bigger than expected at 63ft 9in long and bears the new brand name of its parent company, Silent Yachts. The solar panels are guaranteed for 20 years, the batteries for 10 years, and the electric motor virtually forever.

Orhan Celikkol and Michael Köhlers Solar Energy system was used to create a luxurious 62-foot catamaran capable of operating with zero emissions. The Solarwave 64 is priced around €2.5 million and is now available for purchase. Silent Yachts has won the Energy Globe Award for sustainability and the NauticExpo i-Novo.

Who bought out Sea Ray?

That company was bought in 1986 by Brunswick Corporation for $350 million.

Sea Ray Boats is an American manufacturer that produces recreational motorboats. It currently operates as part of the Brunswick Boat Group, a division of Brunswick Corporation.

It was founded in 1959 by Cornelius Ray as an independent company, Ray Industries, in Detroit, Michigan, with fiberglass boats being made at a factory in Oxford, Michigan. That company was bought in 1986 by Brunswick Corporation for $350 million. At the same time, Brunswick purchased the Bayliner brand, making Brunswick the largest pleasure boat producer in the world.

Sea Ray opened a plant in 1972 at Merritt Island, Florida. It eventually grew to three plants at that location. It employed more than 1,500 workers at its peak. At that time, it produced about 20 sport yachts weekly, each retailing from $200,000 to $500,000. It largely phased out operations during the Great Recession.

Does Mark Zuckerberg have a yacht?

Mark Zuckerberg’s new yacht, Launchpad, is enjoying its summer debut. The megayacht recently stopped in Mallorca and has since ventured further into the Mediterranean. It looks like Zuckerberg may dethrone Jeff Bezos as king of this year’s superyacht season.

While the Amazon founder made waves last year with the debut of his megayacht Koru, Zuckerberg is the name on the yacht world’s lips this season.

By May, the transaction seemed all but confirmed when both the yacht and Zuckerberg made their way to Panama to celebrate his 40th birthday with a fete that included a few spins on his infamous hydrofoil.

Now that summer is here, Zuckerberg has debuted Launchpad —and her support superyacht Wingman — on the biggest stage in the yachting world: the Mediterranean.

Why did Searay stop making yachts?

According to Schwabero it was “largely due to the persistently weak financial performance of the yacht product category.” As a result Brunswick decided to not divest Sea Ray, but simply discontinue sport yachts and yacht models.

Are Bill Gates and Paul Allen friends?

The company restructured on June 25, 1981, to become an incorporated business in its home state of Washington (with a further change of its name to “Microsoft Corporation, Inc.”). As part of the restructuring, Gates became president of the company and chairman of the board, and Allen became executive vice president and vice chairman. The relationship between Allen and Gates became strained as they argued even over small things. Allen effectively left Microsoft in 1982 after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, though he remained on the board of directors as vice chairman. Gates reportedly asked Allen to give him some of his shares to compensate for the higher amount of work that Gates was doing. According to Allen, Gates said that he “did almost everything on BASIC” and the company should be split 60–40 in his favor. Allen agreed to this arrangement, which Gates later renegotiated to 64–36. In 1983, Gates tried to buy Allen out at $5 per share, but Allen refused and left the company with his shares intact; this made him a billionaire when Microsoft went public. Gates later repaired his relationship with Allen, and the two men donated $2.2 million to their childhood school Lakeside in 1986. They remained friends for the rest of Allen’s life.

Allen resigned from his position on the Microsoft board of directors on November 9, 2000, but he remained as a senior strategy advisor to the company’s executives. In January 2014, he still held 100 million shares of Microsoft.

  • Vulcan Capital is an investment arm of Allen’s Seattle-based Vulcan Inc., which has managed his personal fortune. In 2013, Allen opened a new Vulcan Capital office in Palo Alto, California, to focus on making new investments in emerging technology and internet companies.
  • Patents: Allen held 43 patents from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Apps: Allen backed A.R.O., the startup behind the mobile app Saga
  • SportStream, a social app for sports fans
  • and a content-management app called Fayve.
  • Interval Research Corporation: In 1992, Allen and David Liddle co-founded Interval Research Corporation, a Silicon Valley-based laboratory and new business incubator that was dissolved in 2000 after generating over 300 patents, four of which were the subject of Allen’s August 2010 patent infringement lawsuit against AOL, Apple, eBay, Facebook, Google, Netflix, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Staples, Yahoo!, and YouTube.
  • Ticketmaster: In November 1993, Allen invested more than $325 million to acquire 80% of Ticketmaster. In 1997, Home Shopping Network acquired 47.5% of Allen’s stock in exchange for $209 million worth of their own stock.
  • Charter Communications: In 1998, Allen bought a controlling interest in Charter Communications. Charter filed for bankruptcy reorganization in 2009, with Allen’s loss estimated at $7 billion. Allen kept a small stake after Charter emerged from reorganization, worth $535 million in 2012. The company’s 2016 purchase and subsequent merger of Time Warner Cable with Charter’s subsidiary, Spectrum, made Charter Communications the second-largest cable company in the U.S.

Are Carver yachts still being made?

Carver no longer makes yachts. The company closed its doors in 2021. However, you can still find a wide array of used Carver Yachts for sale on the brokerage market.

Carver Yachts was sold back in 1985 by Miramar Marine Corp, which eventually evolved into Genmar Holding, Inc. However, after filing bankruptcy in 2008, Genmar Holdings was auctioned off in 2010; Irwin Jacobs and John Paul DeJoria (J&D Acquisitions) purchased Carver and Marquis Yachts for $6.05 million. They formed the Marquis-Larson Boat Group — which consisted of six boat brands — Marquis, Carver, Larson, Larson FX, Larson Escape, and Striper. In 2018, Polaris acquired the assets of most of the Larson Boat Group companies aside from Marquis and Carver, but in the summer of 2021, both Marquis and Carver Yachts shut down for good.

Carver Yachts are considered to be seaworthy boats in calm seas. Many boaters argue that Carver Boats are great coastal boats but don’t outperform in offshore waters.

Did Carver yachts get sold?

Over 100 of the 65 Motor Yachts were built from 2005 to 2008 in Pulaski, Wisconsin. Carver was acquired by Marquis-Larson boat group.

Carver was a yacht builder located in Pulaski, Wisconsin, in the United States.

Carver Yachts was founded in 1954 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, when Charles “Charlie” Carter and George Verhagen started building mahogany runabouts in a factory on South 27th. The popular myth that they started building boats in the backyard garage is not true. They were both long time marine industry people that decided to build boats rather than sell them through Carter’s two marine dealerships in Green Bay and the Fox Valley. The pair later sold the business in 1963 to business partners Walter “Wally” Markham and Glen Nordin, both of whom had worked for Cruisers Yachts of Oconto, Wisconsin. Under their leadership the then-called Carver Boat Corporation transitioned to fiberglass based construction and expanded from a regional boat builder to an international company with worldwide sales.

In 2004 Carver started the Marquis Yachts line, which began with the 59 and 65 Motor Yachts. Over 100 of the 65 Motor Yachts were built from 2005 to 2008 in Pulaski, Wisconsin.

Do solar-powered yachts exist?

Silent Yachts are the first ocean-going electric production yachts in the world, which are powered by solar energy. Storing the energy of the sun in state of the art battery banks enables guests on board to be fully solar sustainable while having the possibility of unlimited range with zero emission.

Why did Bayliner stop making Cruisers?

The world’s largest boatbuilder cited changing global trends and the fluctuating needs of boat buyers for the move. “Our current plan reflects a change in focus for Bayliner’s global product portfolio to emphasize and expand its leadership across a broader set of recreational dayboat craft types,” Graves says.
