What Factors Influence Tourism?

The paper examines the impact of macroeconomic supply- and demand-side determinants of tourism, which is a significant component of global services exports and the backbone of many smaller economies. It focuses on the multiple effects of these determinants and uses a two-stage synthetic indicator to analyze the impact of different cultural amenities on tourism demand across 168 European cities. Infrastructure is a universal driver of tourism performance, while policy conditions, enabling environment, and Natural and Cultural Resources are also critical.

Several studies have examined the determinants of tourism demand, but most have focused on quantitative methods. The most important determinants identified in the paper include environmental quality, tourist income, common language, common border, distance, relative price, and visa restrictions. Determinants of demand include socio-economic factors such as age, sex, marital status, and education level. Functional resources, including economic, technological, ecological, political, psychological, socio-demographic, and cultural determinants of tourism, also play a role.

In Tanzania, the income of tourists and infrastructure development are the two main determinants of international tourism demand. Most studies on the determinants of tourism demand focus primarily on economic factors, with tourist income and price variables being the most used variables. External determinants include political factors, economic situation, news and travel media, and marketing activities of tourism organizations.

The research aims to increase visits in a sustainable way using the principal component of demand and supply.

What is influence on tourism?

Tourism has both direct and indirect economic impacts on a community. Direct impacts occur when commodities like accommodation, entertainment, food and beverage services, and retail opportunities are sold within a country’s borders. Residents, visitors, businesses, and various levels of governments influence these impacts through their spending in or near a tourism area. The key component of direct economic impacts is that they occur within a country’s borders and are implemented by residents and non-residents for business and leisure purposes.

Indirect economic impacts can be found in investment spending surrounding a tourism offering from private and governmental interests, which may not explicitly be related to tourism but benefits both tourists and local stakeholders. Indirect impacts include the purchase and sale of intermediary items, such as additional supplies for restaurants during high tourism seasons or widened sidewalks in busy downtown centers. In 2014, indirect economic impacts accounted for 50. 7 percent of the total GDP contribution from travel and tourism.

Induced spending, the re-circulation of a tourist dollar within a community, is another way tourism indirectly impacts a community. For example, a foreign tourist injects money into the local economy by spending on a souvenir made by a local at the tourism destination.
