Can You Take Bottled Water On Carnival Cruise Ships?

Carnival Cruise Lines allows guests to bring their own bottled water onboard, as long as it comes from a shoreside water treatment plant or is generated on board from seawater via Reverse Osmosis. However, the company’s Liquor and Beverage policy states that guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas, and other non-alcoholic beverages packed in bottles.

Some people prefer to bring their own bottles of water onto a ship, but policies vary by cruise line. As of 2023, Norwegian Cruises and MSC Cruises do not allow guests to bring hard liquor, beer, or plasticglass bottled beverages on board. Guests may bring distilled water for use with a CPAP machine or nursery water for families with babies and pack it in carry-on luggage.

Carnival Cruise Line has one of the loosest beverage policies of all cruise lines, allowing each guest to carry on a maximum of 12 bottled beverages. Bottled water is non-refundable and can now be ordered for the same price on-board. Onboard water is purified and tastes good, so guests should bring a refillable bottle (preferably with a wide-mouth lid) and forget about the policy.

In summary, Carnival Cruise Lines allows guests to bring their own bottled water onboard, but policies vary by cruise line. Some passengers may prefer to bring their own bottles of water, but the policy varies by cruise line.

Should you drink bottled water in a cruise?

Should You Drink Tap Water on a Cruise Ship?. In most cases, it is perfectly safe to drink tap water on a cruise ship. Cruise lines adhere to strict regulations and guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of their passengers. However, there are some situations when you might want to take extra precautions:

  • Destination Ports: While the tap water on the cruise ship is generally safe, the quality of tap water in some port destinations may vary. It’s advisable to research the water quality at each port of call and consider using bottled water if necessary.
  • Sensitivity to Minerals: Some people may be sensitive to the minerals found in desalinated water. If you have a known sensitivity, you may prefer bottled water, which is usually available for purchase on the ship.
  • Special Health Concerns: If you have specific health concerns or conditions that require you to consume only bottled water, it’s best to consult with the cruise line in advance to make suitable arrangements.
  • Tips for Staying Hydrated on a Cruise. Carry a Reusable Water Bottle: Bringing a reusable water bottle with you on the cruise is a sustainable way to stay hydrated. You can refill it with tap water or purchase bottled water if preferred.
  • Use Water Filtration Devices: Consider bringing a portable water filtration device like a personal water filter or purification tablets if you plan to explore remote destinations during your cruise.
  • Know Your Ship’s Policies: Familiarise yourself with the cruise ship’s policies regarding tap water and bottled water. Some cruise lines provide complimentary bottled water in certain cabin categories or at specific times.

Can I refill my water bottle on a cruise?

If you would like to pack a reusable water bottle with you on the ship, you are welcome to ask a Cast Member at a beverage station for cups of water and ice with which to fill it. You are allowed to take your reusable water bottles off the ship when you are in port to stay nice and hydrated.

Alternatively, you may purchase water bottles onboard or even bring your own disposable water bottles with you on the ship, as long as they are unopened and in your carry-on luggage only. Of course, I understand if you’d prefer a reusable water bottle, especially the type that can keep drinks cold for an extended period of time. I just want you to know that you have many options! I always love to recommend that guests pack a swimsuit, sunscreen, and hat in their carry-on luggage as well to be able to cool off in the pool and enjoy the sunshine soon after boarding.

If you have any other questions about what items are allowed onboard the Disney Cruise Line, there is a handy reference list I’ll link to here. And if you have any other questions about anything at all, please visit us again. We’d love to help make your voyage as magical as possible.

Can we bring a case of water on a cruise?

Yes, you can carry a case of water on the ship if you would like. Please keep in mind that your stateroom may not be ready to enter until 1:30 p.m. on the day of your arrival. You will need to keep your carry-on luggage with you until you can access your stateroom. If you are traveling with a group, it might be easiest to place a few water bottles in each item of carry-on luggage that your group is bringing onboard to distribute the weight.

My family loves to head straight to Cabanas (or Marceline Market if sailing on the Disney Wish) for our first lunch on board. You’ll also find one main dining restaurant that will be open for lunch for a limited time if you would like to start your vacation with a slower-paced meal. After lunch, we drop our carry-on items in our stateroom and head to the pool if the weather is warm. We grab a soft-serve ice cream cone and look over the daily activity schedule within the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to plan out our day.

If you scroll through the activities and find something that interests you, click the heart icon within the listing. The app will send a reminder notification about 15 minutes before the activity is set to begin so you won’t miss out on the fun! I recommend that you try out activities early on in the cruise because they may be offered more than once and you will want to do them again. That’s how I am with the trivia games and family-style game shows.

Do cruise ships charge for bottled water?

Cruise Ship Beverage Packages Bottled water generally runs $3-$6 a bottle and surprisingly is included in the “premium” higher priced beverage package.

I had the typical GenX childhood with public water fountains and the trusty garden hose in the neighborhood as my source of water when I was thirsty. In grade school, we had scheduled breaks to line up at the water fountain but otherwise I don’t remember being thirsty. We rarely drank water growing up as a beverage, our family was a Kool Aid family with Tang if there was a coupon. We didn’t drink soda much at that time either, if we did it was a local soda, Frank’s Cola or Root Beer. Coca Cola was a special occasion beverage. Pepsi was my addiction once I started working in restaurants.

I lived life without being tied to a water bottle for nearly three decades. Now I can’t leave the house without a bottle of water (or refillable bottle) in my purse, car and gym bag. It’s the same when I travel. I long gave up my Pepsi addiction and now primarily drink water all day. I’ve learned how to ask for local tap water in a few languages to avoid the tourist trap expensive bottle of water default restaurants have. I know its cheaper to walk to the back of the shop or market to find the bottled water for much less than the chilled bottles at the front of the store. But if a cruise vacation is on your agenda, things can get tricky and expensive quickly so you need to plan accordingly.

As a traveler, I’ve found Facebook groups can be good sources of information but also a crazy judgmental space. For the love of Christmas please google your query first lest the keyboard warriors scare you off. Bottled water is the one question that will trigger the group like no other I’ve seen (bring your own snacks is a close second). I’d love to say – I think drinking coffee is dumb – why is there a Starbucks onboard when there’s free coffee available?
