The Ko Olina lagoons on the southwestern coast of the Hawaiian island Oahu are home to four artificial lagoons, each with its own unique charm and attractions. These lagoons are located in front of resorts and are easily accessible, offering a resort-style vibe. The lagoons are managed by the Marriott Ko Olina resort and have protected, calm waters, making them safe for beginners and kids.
Lagoon 2 is the best for snorkeling due to its more reef-filled waters. Lagoon 2 4 is practically empty most days, while Lagoon 1 is the busiest as it is shared with 4 seasons and Aulani. Lagoon 3 is located at the Marriott Beach Club and Lagoon 2.
The lagoons offer safe swimming for families and novice swimmers, with their sandy bottoms and beach entrances allowing seawater to flow in and out. Lagoon 2 is called the Honu Lagoon in the Ko Olina Resort on the west side of Oahu. The lagoons are home to some of the world’s best lagoons, spectacular sea life, and are extremely safe to snorkel in.
Electric Beach is one of the best places on Oahu to snorkel, but entry can be tricky. Once out of the entry area, most people enter Paradise Cove, a popular spot for sea turtles and monk seals to enter and rest. Ko Olina is better for gentle waves, but depending on the time of year, Electric Beach might be too rough to snorkel.
The main beaches in Ko Olina include Lagoon 1 (Kahola Lagoon), Lagoon 2 (Honu Lagoon), Lagoon 3 (Naia Lagoon), and Lagoon 4 (Ulua). Each lagoon has its own unique charm and attractions, making them an ideal destination for families and novice swimmers.
