When Is The Best Time For A Disney Cruise?

September is often considered the best time to sail for Disney cruises due to the warm weather and onboard pools. Disney cruises to Mexico every Spring and Fall each year, with the Mexican Riviera and Baja, Mexico being more comfortable in March and April than September and October. Spring is the best time to sail to Mexico, and guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission in January and Early February.

January and early February are cheaper than average, and the weather is still pleasant in the Bahamas and the Caribbean, making them an ideal time to escape the cold winters back home. May is another cheaper month to travel. To secure your spot on select Disney Cruises (Jan. 4, 2025 – March 29, 2025) by Aug. 9, 2024, pay just half of the deposit on the day you make your reservation.

When deciding the best time to take a Disney cruise, consider factors such as availability for older kids, sports, work, and school commitments, and your time and budget. Caribbean cruises are the perfect itinerary for the first time, and you can choose either first seating (main dining, around 5:45 PM) or second seating (late dining, around 8:15).

The most popular times to cruise are spring break, summer break, and winter break (between Christmas and New Year’s Eve). A Disney cruise is most affordable during mid-to-late January, early February, or early May. Some weeks in March and April are particularly good.

Before Christmas and after New Years, cruises are usually available within the 90-day window, where they release heavily discounted guaranteed cabins if the cruise isn’t full. Before Christmas and after New Years, you can sometimes get great deals a month.

Octubre is the best month for a Disney cruise, with smooth seas, warm but not too hot, and smooth seas. The most expensive months to book a Disney Cruise are April, June – August, and the Holiday Season between…

  • I totally agree – November to March even can be cool in Caribbean but not everywhere… the further south the warmer it is. Areas like Aruba, Antigua, St.Maarten, St.Thomas are pretty hot year round and the temps don’t vary there as much. The coldest are the Bahamas and Florida of course. We cruised several times in December and January and we were very cold leaving Port Canaveral (50-60s), Castaway Cay was barely 70 with freezing Ocean but St.Thomas was beautiful and hot. The only winter cruise we had that was hot from start to finish was departing from Puerto Rico. Only thing is you miss Castaway Cay on the Southern sailings. I would say our fav time all around was early May or mid October. Perfect weather. If I was to choose winter months I’d probably go with March, but later in March just to be sure. Also… the Seas are roughest in January in the Atlantic. They can be rougher during hurricane season yes but usually only if you encounter a storm. The captain told us December and January are the 2 months where they have to shut down the aqua duck routinely because of high winds and when they miss docking at Castaway Cay.

  • We most often cruise in October…even this past October when the hurricane hit the panhandle of Florida. The Fantasy captain took great caution steering us around storm. It was rockier than usual the first two nights but leveled off. I could feel we seemed to be moving faster to avoid stormy seas and make time. We’ve also been in February. It was cool at night though warm during the day. The water on the boat stayed warm enough to swim but Castaway Cay was chilly in the water! Luckily, there’s always lots to do on board despite the weather!

  • Another thing to keep in mind is what types of temperature you are used to. We live in a place where an average summer day is in the 70’s. Our upcoming cruise to mexico in october put the average temperature in the high 70’s to 80’s occasionally going in to the higher 80’s for that time of year. That means it will be a little warmer than we are used to but not too bad. But if we were to go on a cruise in the middle of summer with temperatures in the 90’s we would end up being uncomfortable and not enjoy the trip as much.

  • Michael, my husband and I watch your articles every day. We love your heartfelt and authentic love for Disney. We have been going to Disney every year, sometimes twice a year, since our honeymoon in 1991. We have done three Disney cruises. The cruises were our favourite vacations but we love the Parks as well ❤️. Thank you so much for making these articles. We enjoy them so much!!!

  • I, for one, appreciate the Disney cruise vlogs you’ve been putting out. I booked my first Disney cruise for the first week of October. Fingers crossed, but I’ve lived in Florida two Octobers now, and September was when the hurricane hit. Plus I once went on a cruise in June and had horrible weather, so you never know.🤷🏾‍♀️

  • I have been on August, September cruises and both were very hot. Aswell November and December and weather was fantastic were able to use pools in Nov and December .Personally I prefer late fall early winter. Michael thanks again for your great posts. P.S. unfortunately I have not cruised in ten years so your posts really are enjoyable.

  • I have cruise in January, February, March,April,May and November. Not all DCL but The one I did in May which was one of my DCL cruises was the best for weather and crowds. It’s nicer to get away from the cold weather here in other month though. I have a cruise booked for September. We will see how it goes. Hopefully not too rough.

  • Personally I want to take one of the Canada cruises don’t and or won’t really care for the cold weather but then again I’m from the north so I’m used to it but its mostly about the scenery I want to see but def want to take a carabian cruise as well. I imagine I will go on a cruise one day but I’m gonna knock out a few w.d.w. trips first now that I’m able to start taking trips and not tied down all year I’m gonna start taking at least 1 or 2 Disney trips a year . Like I said last time I’m taking my first w.d.w. trip in over 15 years and that trip is almost here can’t wait..!! Hope to see you vloging while I’m there

  • I am contemplating a very merry Cruise with one of my best friends…. we both love Disney, and we both love Christmas sounds like a great combination! I have never been on a cruise have never wanted to go on a cruise until now. perusal your vlogs has piqued my interest, and like you I trust Disney to keep their passengers safe in any weather conditions

  • Good info sir! You are right though, it can vary for temperature during the fall/winter. We went on a Merry Time cruise this past December and the temps were fine, mid to upper 70s. Our problem was wind and some rain in Port. We’ve been on 8 cruises in different times of year and 6 in the Caribbean area and March is our favorite time of year to cruise too. We cruised in October and a hurricane did affect our cruise, but Disney did their magic and it was one our best cruises. The hurricane came in a day before we left so when we got to the ship, we didn’t know what would happen, but disney changed the itinerary to a Mexican cruise and we hit many ports we never been to before AND they ended up extended our cruise by a day and half with NO extra charge! No complaints from us, and they put on extra shows and everything! We just had to change our flights and all but due to the hurricane, all the airlines were being flexible. I just felt bad for the people who were supposed to cruise after us as I think they were canceled or got shortened bc obviously the ship wasn’t back in Port bc the storm was hitting Florida on that day.

  • We went on a Merrytime cruise to the Western Caribbean starting Thanksgiving weekend last year. We had no problems with it being too cool except for one evening. And honestly, we took advantage of that cool evening by riding the AquaDuck about a hundred times because there was only one other family crazy enough to be riding it too.

  • The closer you are to the United States the colder those months are going to be because bahamas is more on the Atlantic Ocean side. But if you go to an “actual” caribbean island more towards the “caribbean sea”, no matter what month it is, is going to be hot. Like Puerto Rico, Dom Republic, Jamaica,Cozumel. Etc… oh btw I cruised during a hurricane, not with disney, and it was fuuuun (not) LOL. Anyway keep up the good work. I watch your vlogs everyday.
