What Items Can You Bring On A Carnival Cruise?

Carnival Cruise Line offers a comprehensive packing list for a 7-day cruise, covering essential items such as clothing, shoes, and sunscreen. The cruise line conducts security scanning of all luggage and reserves the right to confiscate any item deemed dangerous or posing a risk to the vessel. Activities-appropriate clothing and shoes are recommended, and cruise cabins come with generic shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion.

For longer cruises, the number of tops, dresses, and underwear can be adjusted. Carnival-specific must-haves include identification, documentation, and sports equipment. The cruise line also provides a list of essential items to pack, including food restrictions, sports equipment, and water shoes.

While in port, a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (e.g., sparkling water, sodas, juice, and milk) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought on board. Swim cover-ups, water shoes, bathing suits, sun hats, sunglasses, beach bags, and SPF are also essential.

Activity-appropriate clothing and shoes are recommended, along with a back pack or beach tote, sunscreen and after-sun lotion, and own toiletries. Hard liquor, beer, or plasticglass bottled beverages are not allowed on board. A small toiletry bag packed with pain relievers, cough drops, allergy medicine, adhesive bandages, antacids, antiseptic wipes, and antibacterial handwash is also recommended.

Can I bring a 12 pack of soda on a Carnival cruise?

While in port, a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought on board. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12-ounces/354-ml each or less per person.

Proper travel documentation is required at embarkation and throughout the cruise. Even though a guest has completed registration using Online Check-in, it is still the responsibility of the guest to present the required travel documents at the time of embarkation. Guests should check with their travel agent and/or government authority to determine the travel documents necessary for each port of call. Any guest without proper documents will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of the cruise fare will be issued. Carnival assumes no responsibility for advising guests of proper travel documentation.

Except where it is a mandatory requirement, Carnival highly recommends that all guests travel with a passport book. The passport book must be valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel. This will enhance the debarkation experience as delays may be expected upon return to the United States for those without one. Additionally, this will enable guests to fly from the United States to meet their ship at a foreign port should they miss their scheduled port of embarkation and allow guests who must disembark the ship before their cruise ends, due to an emergency, to fly back to the United States without significant delays and complications.

For cruises that begin and end in the same U.S port, the following WHTI-compliant documents are acceptable for cruise travel. Please note that if the cruise visits Colombia or Greenland, a passport book(valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel) is required. A passport card with the same validity is also acceptable for cruises to Colombia.

Why do I need a lanyard on a cruise?

You know all those of those lanyards you get at conventions and meetings that you don’t know what to do with? Bring one on your cruise! Even if you don’t have a lanyard at home, they sell them on board in the gift shop. Everything from sporty ones to blingy ones. It’s useful for carrying your Sail&Sign card when you’re walking around the ship. We brought a hole punch for ours, but after cruising I discovered it would be better to have a lanyard with one of those clear plastic pouches so that way you can add your driver’s license too for ID when getting on and off the ship in ports.

There are no 3 ounce liquid restrictions on a cruise like there are when flying (though, if you’re flying in for your cruise, you’ll have to put these in your checked luggage). While this tip might just be for the ladies, I have to say, the one thing I wish I had more of was extra hair conditioner. The ocean wind, sun, and salt water all take a toll on long locks, so I ran out of my 3 ounce conditioner on the third day. They do have some sundries in the gift shop (including conditioner) if you forget anything at home. But they’re typically priced at a premium since you’re at sea ($5 for White Rain, $14 for Pantene) and not a deal like the items you find in the Duty Free shop.

In the Marketplace on board the ship you’ll find a filtered water machine as well as a coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available 24 hours a day to keep you hydrated and caffeinated. Bring your own water bottle and travel coffee mug to take advantage of the unlimited refills and to make it easy to walk around the ship without spilling your beverage. If you forget your coffee mug, don’t worry, they have a coffee shop on board with specialty coffees too. Be sure to get their coffee card to get a stamp with each purchase toward a free beverage.

Can I bring a refillable water bottle on a Carnival cruise?

Free Lemonade & Iced Tea (and water too!) – One of the things I remember wondering before my first cruise was if I there was any complimentary beverages other than water. The good news is there is! Lemonade and Iced Tea flow freely on the Lido Deck and in the dining rooms. If you’re feeling extra fancy you can mix both the lemonade and iced tea to make an Arnold Palmer (Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this!). Of course, water is available too— and it’s perfectly safe to drink. Bring a refillable water bottle to save on trips to the Lido Deck.

Lunch in the dining room – Most cruisers rush to the Lido Deck for a buffet lunch on embarkation day, but a little known fact is the dining room is also open during lunchtime. When we choose this option, there is usually only a handful of guests dining with us. The best part? Never having to wait for a table.

TheChef’s Table – On select cruise ships there is an option for dinner at The Chef’s Table. Now, I haven’t had the chance to attend this VIP experience, but it’s on my list for a future cruise. The dinner starts with a tour of the galley followed by cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and then a multi-course feast, prepared by a master chef. The menu is also unique to the experience. I think this would make a fantastic evening to celebrate a special occasion.

Guests may also bring non-alcoholic beverages as carry-on items on boarding day. Non-alcoholic beverages may not exceed 12 standard (17 oz.) cans, bottles or cartons per stateroom. Milk and distilled water brought on for infant, medical, or dietary use are permitted.

Can I bring a bag of chips on a Carnival cruise?

I’ve never had an issue with packaged snacks (unopened or opened). The main restriction is taking them off in port, not in bringing them on to the ship.

Due to concerns for food safety and contamination prevention, any food items brought on board must be pre-packaged and unopened. Homemade items or pre-cooked foods are not allowed. We are unable to provide food preparation, refrigeration or storage for personal food or beverage items ;

Please note: The following beverages are included in the price of your cruise and are served in the main dining room and 24/7 in the Lido Restaurant: non-bottled water, lemonade, iced tea, hot chocolate and non-specialty coffee and tea.

Can you bring a backpack on Carnival Cruise?

On the first day of your cruise, it may take a few hours for your luggage to be delivered to your stateroom, but you don’t have to wait to have fun. Stuff a carry-on backpack with essentials like your cell phone, wallet, bathing suit and sunglasses, and start swimming, sunning or exploring your ship immediately. When it’s time for shore excursions, pack this handy tote with everything you’ll need for the day and save space for a few souvenirs you’ll pick up along the way.

Chances are, you’ll enjoy every day of your cruise in perfect health, but it’s good to be prepared for small ailments that might pop up like a scratchy throat, a headache or a blister. Bring along a small toiletry bag packed with pain relievers, cough drops, allergy medicine, adhesive bandages, antacids, antiseptic wipes, antibacterial hand gel and seasickness remedies like pills, wrist bands, skin patches or ginger chews.

A few protective items keep cruisers comfortable on board the ship and on land. To guard against harmful UVA and UVB rays, pack sunglasses with UV lenses, sunscreen with an SPF factor of 30 or more and a brimmed hat.

  • We learned the hard way that you cannot bring handcuffs. 😂😂 Now…it was our honeymoon and my bridesmaids packed a “fun bag” for us. They ended up letting us keep it because they were plastic. But we were definitely “embarrassed” by the cruise security going through our bag and lifting up the handcuffs in the air for all of the passengers embarking to see. 😂 My husband laughed his butt off!

  • I had a bladeless desk fan with me for the white noise on my first carnival cruise, and although it wasn’t perfect it was a life saver! My AC went out in my balcony room on a cruise elegant evening, and I’ll never be without a fan again. My air-conditioning didn’t get fixed until well into the evening. I wish I had known the steward could have brought me a true fan! Thank you!

  • Now I heard something about a pineapple but I am so shocked about the unicorn. Wait I have seen people decorated their door giving it a beach theme and having a pineapple with drinks too. I cannot believe some people used a good fruit and an innocent my little pony unicorn and made it a sexual theme. Thank you for sharing!

  • headed out on Jan 21 2023 for our first ever cruise! Been trying to absorb as much as I can before boarding day and came across your website. Sooo glad I did! You two are sooo likeable and fun to watch and listen to! found myself laughing multiple times!! ANd the information you give is fantastic!! TYSM!!!

  • Leaving for my first cruise June 2023 (5 days) on the Carnival Magic. I’m scared and excited at the same time! 😱 So glad I found you all!!! I’ve been saving the articles to re-watch as it gets closer to the date… eventually I’ll participate in the live chats. 😃 Thank you for all you’re doing to make cruising fun!!!! ❤️ 💐

  • I’ve cruised with carnival several times. I like perusal these articles to hear what other people are doing and knowing about the cruise line. I’ve learned some things every time. So I appreciate these vid. Something to mention about carnival: They have hair dryers in every room they’re usually in a drawer somewhere in the room. They could also be in a closet. Specifically in overview and balcony rooms. Bring a robe if you wear one and your plus size ( bigger than a size 20 womens) the robes are only for average sized people and they do not have any bigger. Buy your drink packages before the cruise… they are way cheaper than onboard. If you don’t drink that much don’t bother it’ll be a waste.

  • I LOVE y’alls website!! I took my first cruise on the Vista Jan 28-Feb 4, 2023 (out of Galveston) and I had the time of my life! I mean I was crying when I left the ship! I booked my next one for November on the Dream also out of Galveston (8 days) and I am SO excited. I watched a ton of articles prior to my first cruise and honestly I feel like I packed really well! I’m really enjoying y’alls tips and stories and you’re downright awesome people! Honestly, I think I will stick with Carnival too!

  • My only comment about the beach towels is that the Carnival towels can get heavy at times when if they get really wet and you have to carry them back to the boat. I like to bring a light beach towel (it honestly might not even be a beach towel, more a light pool towel maybe? I honestly don’t know 😅) but something LIGHT so that if it gets wet, you’re not lugging it back with the rest od your stuff, especially since you will be drained after a beach day. Just my personal preference. But if you’ve packed too much already, then it is not a necessity. At the pool, mosy definitely use the Carnival towels.

  • I love perusal you guys. You are so much fun and very helpful! Have you guys ever cruised on Norwegian or would you consider it? My husband and I will be going on our very first cruise to the Caribbean on Norwegian Jade in August 2024 to celebrate our 30th anniversary. we are so excited and cannot wait.

  • Where I have naturally curly hair, I have gotten past with my steamer…yeah don’t use it for my hair anymore. I would usually pack it with some of my curl hair creme or other hair stuff. It is an actual one for clothes. Lol.I have also heard of folks packing Hennessey in a mouth wash bottle… of course you gotta use the original brown flavor of Listerine. Rinsing the bottle, but you can’t completely wash out all the smell of the mouth wash, in case it gets opened. 😅😅😅

  • That Downey wrinkle release is the TRUTH!!! Ohhhh, if you really need a fan, fill out a special needs form documenting your special needs… it makes a difference… my last cruise, my steward tried to say, they didn’t have any, but, I reminded him, I filled out that information on my form… it was verified, and I got a working fan…

  • Going on my first cruise this coming October I’m too excited never been on a plane or a boat in my life, all y’all articles have been very helpful & informative appreciate y’all, quick question, we’re flying to Florida from Houston Tx. then from Florida the cruise 🚢 is to the Bahamas, I was told by my friend who’s taking me l that I don’t need a passport because we’re not flying out of the country, just wanna make sure that’s correct?? Also y’all are so down to earth feel like I know y’all personally, keep the content coming

  • Thanks for sharing fam! Question: with all the accessible food on carnival, I am going to try to limit my intake cuz I’m on a weight loss mission. I’m practicing keto/low carb and need my sugar free caramel. Been awhile since I cruised and I’m not trying to pay for their Starbuck prices for coffee, and don’t know what they have on board in the cafe. Can I bring a bottle of my sugar free caramel or that’s something I need snuggle in? Lol

  • Hello. I would love to contact you directly. I have questions. My husband and I are celebrating our 20th anniversary. He booked a cruise through Royal (which we found out was for an older crowd). WE ARE YOUNG AT HEART lol. We are booked for May 14h 22. Anyway we thought about switching from royal to carnival. Is this possible????? Thanks for your help ☺️
