Carnival Celebration, also known as Grand Celebration, was a cruise ship originally built for Carnival Cruise Line in 2007. It was the last of three ships to be built in Carnival’s Holiday Class of cruise ships. The ship was sold in July 2020 and scrapped in Aliaga, Turkey. Launched in 2022, Carnival Celebration is the second in a line of next-generation, Liquefied Natural Gas-powered cruise ships from Carnival Cruise Line.
The Carnival Celebration is an Excel-class cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Line, marking a push from the cruise line toward vessels that are bigger than the Carnival Celebration. The ship began operating for Carnival Corporation plc on 14 March 1987 and remained in their fleet for over 20 years until she was retired in April 2008. She underwent an extensive refit and re-entered service with Carnival’s subsidiary, Iberocruceros, as the Grand Celebration in the summer.
Carnival Celebration is Carnival’s second vessel of the fleets Excel class, a subclass of Carnival Corporation’s Excellence class. At 183,521 GT, she is the largest ship in Carnival’s fleet. Unlike her sister ship, Mardi Gras, Carnival’s old MS Celebration is now sailing again from Palm Beach, Florida, as the Grand Celebration (Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line). The ship does two night voyages to Freeport.
On Saturday, a cruise ship crossed paths with a group of migrants on a dangerous open-water journey. The crew came to their rescue, and hundreds of passengers clapped and cheered as crew members rescued them. The Carnival Celebration is currently en route to the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico, sailing at a speed of 17.4 knots and expected to arrive there on July 31, 12:45.
In summary, Carnival Celebration is an Excel-class cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Line, offering a mix of old favorites and new innovations. The ship has been renamed Carnival Fantasy and is currently sailing under the flag of the Bahamas.
