Is Traveling To Angangueo Safe?

Angangueo, despite its reputation as a tourist destination in Michoacán, is a safe and picturesque town with rich mining heritage. The town attracts monarch butterflies who seek the Oyamel trees for hibernation, sexual maturation, and mating. The people of Angangueo are proud of having monarchs there, as stated by WWF’s Monica Echeverria.

Visiting the Monarch Butterfly Reserve in Mexico is safe, as it requires common sense and basic precautions. However, the winding road up to the sanctuary is steep, making it potentially unsafe for buses. After getting off the bus, visitors can explore the town’s beautiful nature, colonial architecture, and rich mining traditions.

General health and crime concerns for American travelers to Angangueo are slim to none. Although the area is heavily touristed, the chances of any crime-related incidents are slim. However, not traveling alone to Angangueo is uninformed, as there are several criminal groups in the area.

Angangueo and Zitacuaro are both considered safe places to visit, with locals generally being friendly and helpful. Parks seem to be in good condition, but everyone must assess their own safety before visiting. Overall, Angangueo is a beautiful and safe destination for visitors to Central Mexico during winter.
