Boaby Rock Point is the most beautiful beach snorkeling site on Grand Turk Island, offering a beautiful reef in shallow water surrounded by lush seagrass and abundant fish, coral, and sea fans. Governors Beach, located directly at the cruise port, is another excellent spot for snorkeling.
Grand Turk has two centrally located beach reefs, The Bight Reef (Coral Gardens) and Smiths Reef, as well as a wide selection of remote sites and snorkeling tours available. However, these reefs are not easily accessible from the shore. To explore the island, there is a welcome to Grand Turk sign at the end of the runway with foot trails through the bush to the beach on both sides. Both paths lead down to the ocean, and there are a few coral heads inshore that are pretty good.
A 15-minute walk to the point where you can snorkel the entire shallow reef along the beach is beautiful. A taxi tour around Grand Turk at the cruise port takes you along the park and beaches, explaining just off the beach the water drops.
Taking a Grand Turk snorkeling excursion from the Carnival Breeze cruise ship during a tour of the eastern Caribbean is great fun. Amber Cove does not have a beach, but the Library Reef, located off Governors Beach, is a superb choice for a snorkeling site closer to Grand Turk’s coast. This reef is teeming with vibrant coral formations and a variety of fish species, offering a kaleidoscopic visual treat.
