How Trump’S Policies Are Affecting Us Tourism?

The Trump administration has been criticized for a sharp decline in tourism, with some blaming it on President Donald Trump. The number of international visitors to the US fell by 4 in the first seven months of 2017, and Trump banned US citizens from visiting the country in June. In August, the UK Foreign Office advised against all but essential travel due to a “significant risk to British nationals”. Trump’s immigration policies have fuelled “anti-US sentiment” around the world, which is expected to lead to significant falls in traveller numbers to the country.

The travel and tourism sector, which contributed $1.5tn to the US economy, or 8.1% of its gross domestic product, has also been negatively impacted by Trump’s participation on Twitter. The number of international tourists to the US dropped by more than 2%, while international tourism spending remained almost flat. Tourism to the US under Trump is down, costing $4.6 billion and causing America to lose its spot as the world’s second-largest tourist destination.

Travel and tourism are the US’s largest service export, generating a $98 billion trade surplus for the US economy in 2015. The downturn has caused America to lose its spot as the world’s second-largest tourist destination. The Trump administration’s presidency might affect tourism, including foreign travel to the US, Americans traveling abroad, access to Cuba, and the cost of airfare.
