In No Mans Sky, Frigates are the only ship that can be leveled up, allowing players to raise a C class frigate to S class by sending it on expeditions. To repair a frigate, the owner must land on one of the frigates’ landing pads and contact the captain. Upgrading your frigate requires a lot of Salvaged Frigate Modules, which can be obtained through various methods.
In No Mans Sky, players can buy or win a freighter and upgrade their frigates using the Tritium mining Tritium for fuel. To upgrade your frigate with at least five Command Rooms, players should use the Tritium to obtain Silver, Gold, and Platinum mining Tritium for fuel.
A player can own up to 30 frigates once they command a freighter and send them on expeditions to other star systems. The most useful upgrade is the Matter Beam, which allows access to the General Inventory of your freighter from anywhere in the Universe at any time. As of Endurance, 78 Salvaged Frigate Modules are required to unlock all upgrades, 63 for Craftable Upgrade Blueprints, and 15 for Freighter Construction Modules.
Sending organic frigates out on expeditions can result in bringing back tech, upgrades, or storage slots for your Living Ships. In-game rewards can be earned by watching the game, and including an Organic Frigate in an expedition can result in it bringing back tech, upgrades, or storage slots for your Living Ships.

How to improve fleet NMS?
If you mean upgrade the quality of the ships in the fleet, just send them on missions. They gain quality as they gain “XP” so to speak. … If you mean the size of your fleet, purchase more ships as you see them available. … If you want to upgrade your freighter, you will get the opportunity I think it is at every 10th warp.
Is an AB class freighter good enough?
If you have to have the very best of everything, then an S class is required. But if you just need a freighter for the useful stuff it can do, you don’t need an S class. For most people, a B class is fine. An S class gives you the ability to expand to 120 cargo slots, where your A class is limited to 100.
An S class gives you the ability to expand to 120 cargo slots, where your A class is limited to 100. You’re currently still at 33, so it’s unlikely you’ll hit the limit any time soon. For that matter, it’s unlikely you’ll care enough to collect the extra 20 Cargo Bulkheads you’d need to take advantage, given that you can have 500 slots in your storage rooms.
An S class gives you the ability to expand to 60 tech slots, where your A class is limited to 50. Except for a few special modules encountered in expeditions, you only need 30 slots to hold all possible freighter modules. Having 40 tech slots (B class) gives you more freedom to place the modules to make best use of supercharged slots and adjacency bonuses, but that’s all you’ll every really need.
An S class gives you 4 supercharged slots (at least, when the first 30 tech slots are all fitted), versus only 3 for your A class. This is where some people get excited about S class freighters. In My Opinion, an extra hundred ly hyperjump or a bit lower hyperdrive fuel usage or a slightly shorter frigate mission time or a slightly lower frigate fuel burn or whatever you’d use the additional supercharged slot for just isn’t all that valuable.
How to upgrade freighter in No Man’s Sky?
Six levels of Freighter Hyperdrive upgrades are available for purchase at the Upgrade Control on the bridge. Matter Beam technology can also be researched at the terminal. This console option replaces the guild mission console and now incorporates the frigate consumables blueprints. All upgrades require Salvaged Frigate Modules, occasionally available from Crashed Freighters, Derelict Freighters (as well as the space encounter type), Nexus Missions and Frigate Expeditions. They can also appear frequently when the player attacks and destroys NPC freighters’ cargo containers. This activity will draw sentinel attention, so the player is advised to take caution. Attacking unarmed cargo pods surrounding the freighter will also reduce the player’s standing with the dominant race.
Freighter Upgrade Modules( | ). Salvaged Fleet Units can be found on Derelict Freighters and installed in your freighter tech or general inventories to boost your hyperdrive range or your frigate fleet’s stats during expeditions. At the Engineering Core Unit, should you choose to obtain a Freighter Upgrade Module, one of seven existing upgrade types of a fixed class will be dispensed. Unlike other upgrade modules, however, these are not bound by the seed generation model. Because of this, freighter upgrade modules from a specific derelict freighter, when installed, will provide the exact same stats. If the upgrades come from different freighters, the stats will be different, but they will always give the stats from their corresponding derelict freighters, regardless of the order of installation.
Freighters can be coloured, using paint blueprints that cost 5,000 nanites each to permanently unlock for use.
How to increase frigate stats in NMS?
Ranks( | ). Over the course of many expeditions, the frigates lose negative traits and gain more positive abilities and base stats. The rank up hereby is based on the number of expeditions with an ever increasing demand early on and a static drop to 5 expeditions later. This can be checked on the Manage Fleet panel, where each frigate keeps track of how many expeditions they have been on.
Each time a frigate’s rank is increased one negative trait is removed, if the frigate has any, or a beneficial trait is given. Further each of the four stats is increased by 1 with an additional 2 points being randomly distributed over all categories. The total growth per rank is 6 points. These points are unrelated to the class, type, race or flavor text of the frigate. The seed for their growth however is static and can not be circumvented by reloading.
Remaining Rank Ups( | ). Class upgrade (from C to B and so on) depends on the total number of the beneficial traits, hence it is possible to calculate how many ranks up are needed to reach class S.
How to get organic frigates?
These ships are larger than a single-user starship, but smaller than a freighter; roughly the same size as traditional frigates. With the exception of The Leviathan, they can only be obtained via random encounters in space after building the Dream Aerial. A player can own up to 30 frigates – this includes traditional frigates, and expedition reward frigates such as the Normandy and the Leviathan, once they command a freighter. Frigates can then be sent on expeditions to other star systems. Frigates can be damaged on expeditions; unlike traditional frigates, organic frigates cannot be landed on or teleported to in order to repair them and are instead repaired by feeding them via the Frigates terminal on the player’s freighter bridge. Organic frigates will have crew members who can appear on the player’s freighter between expeditions.
The frigate fleet is controlled by the Fleet Command Room, located on the freighter that commands the fleet. Building more than one Command Room allows the player to have multiple active missions with different frigates at once.
A list of documented frigates is available at Starship Catalogue – Frigate.

How do I get a second organic frigate?
Hiring( | ). Once the Dream Aerial has been completed and the first organic frigate attained with it, all future organic frigates can only be obtained through random encounters while pulsing in space. As with traditional frigates, in order to recruit an organic frigate, the player must have less than 30 frigates of any type in their armada. After finding the first organic frigate, the Dream Aerial does not need to be in the player’s inventory to encounter others, and it serves no further purpose as it no longer has the summoning ability that it did for the first one. Contrary to early rumors, it also does not have a “cooldown” period. Players can safely discard the Dream Aerial without consequence, or they can transfer it to another player who has yet to acquire their own and it will work for them.
If the player cannot afford the organic frigate encountered, they will not be able to interact with the Accept button. There does not seem to be any difference in appearance rate between classes – which is to say, S class organic frigates do not appear to be any more or less rare than A, B, or C class organic frigates. The pricing structure is as follows:
- S-Class: 37,500,000 – 62,500,000 units
- A-Class: 26,250,000 – 43,750,000 units
- B-Class: 15,000,000 – 25,000,000 units
- C-Class: 7,500,000 – 12,500,000 units
Where is the freighter upgrade terminal?
You spend the salvaged frigate modules on the freighter itself, at the upgrade terminal on the bridge.
