Single-handed sailing is a skill that appeals to both cruisers and racers. To start, ensure your boat is set up for single-handed sailing with self-tailing winches, a self-tacking jib, and an autopilot if possible. Plan your route ahead carefully and choose a familiar route.
Sailing single-handed is important for both cruisers and racers, and it is crucial to follow the seven golden rules, such as keeping calm and following the rules. Essentials like handbearing compass, sunscreen, and water should be in place before you slip lines.
Get to know your boat well and bring the main halyard and reefing lines back to the cockpit. Bankaboat suggests getting lazy jacks for the main, but only when you want to bring them back. Self preservation is essential, as being single-handed means there is no one to rescue you if you go man overboard. Fit strong jackstays and wear a harness.
Sailing single-handed can be safe and enjoyable, with tips and ideas to make it easier. One way to make it easier is to get into the wind, lash the tiller, and raise the main quickly. Once you have raised the main, return to the helm and get the boat ready for the next sail.

Nice one Bobby. And I agree with you no one needs to say negative things about past or future crew that you are or have sailed with. We do not know the whole story only what you show on camera. I believe you’re a good person and treat people with respect. this island you are at now looks nice as they all do. I hope super yacht didn’t do any damage to your anchor. I guess these tight docks something most likely will happen catch you later next article
Good sailing, I have sailed a lot among the Greek islands alone, sailing alone has its charm. The wind can pick up quickly, be careful on long stretches. As usual, it’s nice to follow you on your journey. I am on my way to the Greek islands in a sailboat, just now passing Marbella in Spain in fine weather and 13 m/s wind, I am just now alone in the boat but going to pick up 2 friends in Malaga. Have sailed from Oslo Norway.:) Have a safe and good sailing trip:)
Hey Bobby, I’ve been perusal your articles for a number of years. When I found your website I went back and watched them all from the very beginning. I am a fan. I really appreciate how well you treat your crew. I am sorry Ella had to leave. While it was clear you both were trying to figure it out … feel more comfortable with each other … I was seeing the connections you two were making. I think if Ella had been able to stay, you’d have made another great friend. I hope, if she wants, that Ella is able to return. Best to you, Michael
Hello Bobby, no such thing as a bad crew. Everyone has different personalities and it takes time to acclimate to strange new surrounding. Hopefully Ella can deal with her call out and get back one day soon. Good looking girl, but we all miss Steph so much…lol. Be safe always 💞 from the Philippines.
When you’re madly in love, you have to move your picture frame to include the person you are with or move on. Steph is sorely missed. What a great woman! A good woman like that is hard to find. Bob, the life you live is awesome. There is lots of hard work, lots of fun. Thanks for all you do. No one can deny 98% of all your crew have been great. Hello from Dallas.
When are you getting that cat? This has gotta b like your last weeks with your pride n joy. N what’s protocol at med mooring? Go next door n ask for help ? Cuz I sure would ask for help. That’s a lot of things to do, the sailboat looked great from the drone, all that blue water, that sail was beautiful, that one looks god on the water, what a special one it is. I’m excited for your new boat. I’m a trucker n it’s gotta b like waiting to slide in it. See what ya got.under the hood. Greece is Kool. Take care, n keep your chin up, the better they are the more it hurts, ❤
Hey Bobby, you have likely been asked this question before but I was curious how you handle the different currencies in the various countries you visit? How do you pay for fuel or food as in do you exchange cash to the local currency or do you use an international credit card? How do you consider that issue?
Some solo sailing is a nice change. As far as comments on crew, my opinion is if you are going to put yourself on a website like sailing doodles, you need to be ready for the negative as well as the positive. There is a definite line between being constructive and straight mean, and I agree, mean isn’t necessary. I think comments about her being uninterested are valid, but she did come off classy and an all around decent woman. Both can be true.
