How To Do A Whirlybird Wakeboarding?

The Whirlybird is a wakeboarding trick that involves a tantrum flip and a 360-degree overhead spin. It is a combination of a tantrum and a 360-degree backside turn, with the rope kept over the head instead of a handle pass. To execute a Whirlybird, approach the wake as you would when performing a normal tantrum. Cut in with a strong edge and be ready to stand tall as you approach the wake. This trick is one of the prettier tricks in the sport of wakeboarding if done right, due to its smooth looking spin combined with a flip. It is simply a Tantrum with a Backside 360 while keeping the rope above. Level: Advanced. It is a good idea to have a solid tantrum before trying a whirlybird, meaning one in which you land wake-to-wake every time. David O’Connor provides a thorough and entertaining instructional for landing your first whirlybird with minimal pain. This is the newest trick in the tantrum family and uses the same approach – wide, progressive heelside approach with more weight on your front. Prerequisties before trying the Whirlybird include heelside using your heelside edge, toesde using your toesde egde, and front side spin when the first 90 degrees face towards the line.
