What is the most unhealthy fish to eat?

Some fish, such as King Mackerel, Shark, Orange Roughy, Swordfish, Marlin, American eel, Wild caviar, and Tilapia, are considered unhealthy due to heavy metals like mercury accumulating in their bodies due to factors like mining, sewage, and fossil fuel wastes. Low-level mercury poisoning from polluted seafood is a serious concern, and some predatory species, such as sharks and tuna, may have high levels of mercury. These fish have dietary advisories, as they may be toxic if not consumed in moderation.

Women, children, and the elderly should be aware of these fish species, as they can cause brain and nerve damage, impact newborn and young child development, and contribute to overfishing, which can harm the ocean ecosystem.

  • 20 years ago long john silver had the best fries i have ever eaten….its hard to describe how insanely good it was,it had none of the artificial taste that most french fries had, the outside was a light fluffy crispy texture and the inner fries was the softest potato ever…..that stuff was ten times more addictive than mcdonalds fries…..it disappeared sometime in the mid to late 2000s…. Till today i have never encountered anything like long john silver fries only in my adolescent dreams. Long john silver fries is like one of those memories, like a myth or legend from ur childhood u could never really be sure if it really happened, like 80s and 90s pop music and sci fi together in electric dreams.

  • Man I love Long John Silvers. Have eaten it a couple times per year for most of my life. I think people sleep on the chicken. But I have no idea how it stays open because there’s rarely anyone there, and there is really terrible service off and on. If I didn’t love the taste so much and have such a strong nostalgic feel for it, I’d probably stop going myself. We’ll see how long it lasts.

  • Long John Silvers’s main problem is seafood is expensive and has a short shelf life. So the business model of a fast-food seafood restaurant is in opposition to itself. Meaning, in order for Long John Silvers to be profitable everything must be frozen. Well if you’re buying frozen seafood, you’ll get far more bang for your buck buying frozen seafood at the grocery store.

  • When I was little (like 9), my Dad and I would eat here regularly. Just go inside and have a nice (and greasy) fried fish meal. This article really sums it up: it’s not the peak of fish, but it’s also a fast food joint. It hits that craving. But the memories I have with my dad going here are honestly more savory than the fish.

  • “This place will probably disappear in the next five years, but I’m glad we got to try it before it left.” That’s literally my exact experience with an A&W/Long John Silver’s that was in Daytona Beach. I used to occasionally go there in the late 2010s when i had to travel to events in the area as part of my old job. The building and interior looked like an absolute dump, but the food itself, both the A&W and Long John Silver’s stuff, was actually pretty decent. Around five years later, i decided to randomly look them up again and that’s when i found out that location had been permanently shut down.

  • I still love LJS. It was a real treat to get it as a kid and that hasnt gone away for me. The right order, for those that havent been and dont kmow what to get, is a fish and chicken plank platter. Theres different ones and ways to vary the numbers of each, just get a bunch. And loads of tartar sauce packets, its good on both the chicken and fish.

  • theres one about 2.4 miles from me and is pretty busy in my essentially waterless city of fort worth. its always a line. i love the fish planks and hushpuppies. if i won the lotto i’d have a couple franchises and pay thr staff 30% higher than average to ensure the cleanest, most delicious, nicest fast food places ever😅

  • I loved Long John also. The crunchiness of the fish and chicken was great. I also had the same complaint, too salty. It seems a lot of establishments like KFC, Giant Eagle and Long John are buying their batter for frying from the same place. Someone is heavy handed with the salt to the point you get a headache. One thing I can say Long John’s grilled shrimp and salmon was the best. Not salty at all but very flavorable.

  • Everything is just getting rapidly more expensive. Businesses are obviously struggling to keep up with demand while balancing a proper price increase to adjust for the s*itty times we’re in. It’s just getting to the point where the cost is becoming to much to run a business and for the paying customer. Times are quite s*itty right now, it’s time to just accept it so we can fix it.

  • I think they were done-in by one of those consumer protection watchdog groups who deemed their food the worst in the industry in terms of calories and sodium. Kinda hard to recover from that. They didn’t try changing up their menu by adding more healthy menu items (rice, veggies and grilled seafood items) but I don’t think it went over well with consumers. I love their fish, but it is SUPER salty. Try the malt vinegar next time instead of the tartar sauce. It’s really amazing. That said, I haven’t had LJS in over 5 years. They’ve largely disappeared from around here (Houston). I think there’s still one in The Woodlands

  • Idk if it was regional or not, but we had a Captain Ds and i never liked catfish until i tried them in Troy Alabama. The catfish iv had before was usually dry and overly seasoned. However, Captain Ds was flaky, moist and soft, with a nice crisp from the breading. The mac n cheese, although your standard Mac and the cheese, was a nice quality mac n cheese. Hush puppies and fried okra were rather nice as well. That specific location, id give a 9/10, especially because you were paying more than $10 (in 2017) for a meal. Unfortunately, the Mcdonalds and Tacobell right next to it smothered it’s business, and was rather challenging to get to it from the main road.

  • I think that LJS’s is similar to KFC. In that the older folks tended to like the oilier, softer fish and chicken batter. Similar to how they would cook it. As a kid I preferred KFC because the batter was softer. And I didn’t have to peel off the crunchier batter like Church’s chicken because it made my mouth hurt!

  • LJS feels like it has gone away… But they have been at around 550 locations for two decades now… They had 1500 in 1989… They had around 500 in 2003…. And they still jave 550 today. So i dont know that they are going anywhere. But people tend to look at 550 locations like its a failure; when in reality; how many franchises have 500 locations? In all sectors of business it is less than 4% of feanchises; in restaurants it is significantly less that that.

  • Honestly, fried fish food is just never top of mind imo due to aggressive marketing which is what led to the decline of it. People would eat it more if it was marketed more but it’s too late for that. Now your only real choices are places like McDonald’s, BK, or Wendy’s if they have it available. I think I will make a conscious choice to have a few because I have not had a fish sandwich in years. May even buy ingredients from the store just to mix it up a bit and take a break from chicken and beef for a while.
