Wakeboarding enthusiasts dream of catching big air off the wake, and understanding the physics behind the wave is crucial. JB ONeill teaches how to jump wake to wake wakeboarding behind the boat in a comprehensive guide. To start getting air and jumping the wake, follow these basic steps:
1. Cross the wake on your heel edge and approach with momentum. Bend your knees and straighten them as you hit the wake, thinking of it as a spring. Experiment with your stance, whether goofy or regular, and switch if struggling.
2. As you hit the wake, lift with your front leg to send most of your wakeboard into the air. As you come off the wake, slowly shift your weight to your front foot and bring your back leg up closer to your hips while keeping your weight in your front foot.
3. Keep the line tight and handle on your way into the wake. Keep your feet on your heel edge all the way through your jump to ensure cushioning. Practice jumping from both sides of the wake to become proficient in both directions.
4. Start your approach slowly and edge harder as you approach the wake. Kick the heel of your front foot down and backward into the water as hard as possible, staying on the edge, leaning back, and keeping your arms locked.
