How to become a yacht interior designer?
Education and Licensure. In order to become a yacht designer, you typically need to have a bachelor’s degree in an area such as naval architecture or marine engineering. In these programs, you can study topics in areas such as marine engineering, hydrodynamics, electrical systems and small craft design. These programs emphasize concepts in engineering and science, and they also provide students with a strong and necessary foundation in mathematical concepts, such as trigonometry and calculus. Some programs may allow you to focus your education in a specific area, such as sailing yachts.
Licensure may also be required for certain employment positions. Marine engineers and naval architects may take an examination offered by the U.S. Coast Guard in order to obtain a mariner’s license, which can be obtained at several levels. A higher level of license can result in higher pay. The first grade of licensure is known as the 3rd Assistant License. With adequate experience and further testing, you may obtain a 2nd and a 1st Assistant License. The highest grade of licensure is titled Chief Assistant.

What is the best wood to build a yacht with?
Teak Wood. Teak wood is generally known as one of the best boat building materials.
It is put through stress tests and abuse, so it can naturally bend and be played with a little bit. Teak wood is a very dense, hard, and strong wood that also contains natural chemicals that prevent rotting. It can be considered a bit more durable and water-resistant than similar woods like Mahogany.
A few drawbacks to keep in mind are the price. It’s quite expensive and hard to find in large sizes. It’s also very hard and requires much more maintenance. It requires close attention and maintenance to keep its integrity and look.
What wood is used in yacht interior?
Exterior lumber is only the tip of the iceberg as far as boats are concerned. High end yachts also have gorgeous interiors with solid wood mouldings, millwork, and cabinetry, as well as veneers and marine grade plywood substrates. Option 3: Buying ‘off the plan’ with a production yacht.
This is the quickest and most cost effective way to buy a new yacht, as production yacht builders buy materials in bulk and put their yachts together quickly due to repetition of process. You can often purchase a yacht that is already under construction, meaning that time to delivery is slashed and you can take possession of your yacht much sooner than if you buy a custom yacht. This option has a lot less room for owner input on design, although some décor choices are normally left open.

Only thing wrong is that I want even more nerd detail! Like what kind of joinery used to assemble cabinetry? Dowels? Biscuits? Screws? What kind of jigs do they use for assembly and hardware install? What kind of joints are they using on the drawers? How are they leveling the cabinetry when installing? How are the shelves fastened in the cabinets? Exactly which drawer is going to hold Nick’s nickers and how many will fit while maintaining structural integrity? These are the questions that keep me awake at night. I’m addicted to RR and I need more nerd answers.
Being a retired cabinet maker I found this article very interesting. What was amazing to me was the use of foam or cardboard core to keep the weight down. This type of construction is very structurally strong and will keep the weight down. If they built the cabinets with solid hard wood your boat would sit lower in the water because of the weight of solid hardwood. So many innovative ideas,I love perusal this build. Boat construction from the hull and deck to all the finishing have to be designed in steps so everything works together, especially on a catamaran were you have 2 hulls working against each other, and a deck and salon trying to keep everything from being ripped apart. This builder has been at it for a long time and obviously knows how to turn out the best possible boat using basic resin and glass. I’m sure you’ll be happy with your purchase.

It’s obvious that Seawind are keen for you to do the work you are articleing the build and all the activities related to it. Smart move on their part, because if I were buying a catamaran (which I won’t be) I would be much more inclined to go with a company like Seawind than one like (name your brand here) who protect their processes as black art which no one can know about because everything is treated as proprietory secrets. Very interesting, in spite of my thinking the entire time, My God, how much do these YouTubers make? This is light years from fixing up a scrapped boat over time, something more along the lines I can relate to. As they say in Australia, good on ya, mate. In dental terms that boat under construction would cost many thousands of filled cavities. Never saw Terysa, the pretty better half in this one, but the terms “CNC” and “joinery” made up for it.

I’m waiting for finances to come through and I will be ordering a 1600 (and I know, probably waiting for years to take delivery). I was looking to request all foam filled fiberglass cabinetry (long lasting and easy to repair). This is making me rethink that request. This woodwork looks lighter and still strong, plus wood cabinetry will look much better than gelcoat (or flowcoat if not using a mold). I see laminations, but I do not see any ‘joinery’. To be sure, I’d pursue honeycomb (or other) veneer laminates in a weight-sensitive vehicle; but there is no indication here of how those are or would be assembled properly. And that is predominantly of interest. I can get veneer laminates from any number of suppliers, possibly even with bespoke curvature. But assembling them with optimum joinery would offer the real value here. By default, I’d just treat laminated panel frames of solid wood with typical joinery such as box-joints, castle-joints, half-laps, rabets, etc and so forth. But I was expecting to see some optimum selection of the like considering the stresses inherent in marine structures and for particular considerations specific to light-weight laminates. Laminated foam core e-glass panels can be assumed to use straight-forward fiberglass assembly techniques, and then lots of quality paint. However, when there is veneer involved, the approach has to be somewhat different. No idea how one would apply a veneer with high pressure to some completed complex 3-dimensional cabinet, like one would do onto solid plywood, for example.
I love following your website, but I have to say if they shut down the manufacturing process so you can make a film. That had to cost thousands of dollars. I hope it was only your boat they were working on at the time. Paying people to stop working and make them wait till you are done filming is costing someone a lot of money. I know you are spending a lot of money on this boat, but as often as you are there filming I think you may be slowing down the process of your own boat being built. Just my opinion as I was an engineer for many years. 10 minutes of shut down was about a $50,000 USD cost that hurt the company.
