How Many Yachts Are Called Eclipse?

The 162.5m long and 1.2 billion luxury motor yacht, Eclipse, is one of the largest and most expensive yachts in the world. Built by Blohm Voss GmbH from Germany, it is one of 70 motor yachts longer than 100m and has a top speed of 1.8 knots. The yacht is currently moored in the Turkish port of Bodrum, alongside three more of Abramovich’s yachts—the 458-foot, 475 million Solaris, the 180-foot, 38 million Halo, and the 220-foot, 20 million Chelsea.

Designer Terry Disdale discusses the construction of the yacht, which took four and a half years. The yacht is owned by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, who also owns Chelsea. The top speed of 20 knots and a range of 6,000 nautical miles were achieved by as many as 20 engineers from Blue Ocean Yacht Management.

The competition began with 16 of the greatest yachts drawn from a hat, and the number was swiftly whittled down to a face-off in the grand final between Eclipse and Octopus, two of the most impressive yachts. The yacht was delivered on December 9, 2010, and at 162.5 meters (533 ft 2 in) long, Eclipse was the world’s longest private yacht.

ECLIPSE is designed to deliver the ultimate 6-star ultra-luxury cruise experience of a lifetime for only up to 228 guests, including 200 in Antarctica. The yacht is known for its iconic and luxurious design, with a top speed of 20 knots and a range of 6,000 nautical miles.
