- In the winter, consider wearing a shorter coat when you climb the Statue you might trip on a full-length jacket while climbing up the narrow steps to the crown. (But do wear a coat if it’s cold since the area isn’t climate controlled.)

We totally loved the trip to Liberty Island and Ellis Island and spent a total of around 5 hours on both islands. Ellis Island is a must see, in my opinion, many didn’t disembark the ferry. I don’t know if you can help me, but I have a question about the crown ticket. I’m going to NY in september and I already have my access to climb into the crown (at 10am), but I have to redeem my actual ticket at the ticket booth in battery park. But on the website it says that 10am is my “entry into the Security Facility”. What does that mean? Is it the security check before boarding the ferry in battery park? Or another security check on liberty island? With crowd and lines, I don’t know how long before 10am I should arrive at battery park and where exactly I have to be at 10am.
