This guide explains how to navigate the Mining Frigate in No Man’s Sky, providing resources for different ship types. Trade ships yield 100 Chromatic Metals, Mining ships yield 100 Magnetised Ferrite, and Support ships yield 100 Condensed Carbon. To obtain salvaged Frigate Modules, players must raid nearby frigates and collect those that use the least fuel. A player can own up to 30 frigates once they command a freighter, which can then be sent on expeditions to other star systems.
The frigate fleet is controlled by the Fleet, and players can upgrade their frigates by looting freighters in pirate systems. The Mining Frigate can only be accessed by breaching with a Breacher Pod, and the frigate contains two escape pods. The Mining Frigate was available in Raider Mode and can be accessed by breaching with a Breacher Pod.
Frigates are smaller ships that appear when summoning a freighter and can be landed on and repaired. If a player gets their fourth frigate while an expedition is underway, they receive rewards for finishing the Freighter Command. The frigate fuel blueprints are rewards for finishing the Freighter Command.
In summary, this guide provides guidance on navigating the Mining Frigate, accessing resources, and upgrading frigates in No Man’s Sky. It also addresses the challenges of navigating the mining frigate and the importance of having a support class frigate for optimal performance.

How to get organic frigate nms?
These ships are larger than a single-user starship, but smaller than a freighter; roughly the same size as traditional frigates. With the exception of The Leviathan, they can only be obtained via random encounters in space after building the Dream Aerial. A player can own up to 30 frigates – this includes traditional frigates, and expedition reward frigates such as the Normandy and the Leviathan, once they command a freighter. Frigates can then be sent on expeditions to other star systems. Frigates can be damaged on expeditions; unlike traditional frigates, organic frigates cannot be landed on or teleported to in order to repair them and are instead repaired by feeding them via the Frigates terminal on the player’s freighter bridge. Organic frigates will have crew members who can appear on the player’s freighter between expeditions.
The frigate fleet is controlled by the Fleet Command Room, located on the freighter that commands the fleet. Building more than one Command Room allows the player to have multiple active missions with different frigates at once.
A list of documented frigates is available at Starship Catalogue – Frigate.
How do I get a second organic frigate?
Hiring( | ). Once the Dream Aerial has been completed and the first organic frigate attained with it, all future organic frigates can only be obtained through random encounters while pulsing in space. As with traditional frigates, in order to recruit an organic frigate, the player must have less than 30 frigates of any type in their armada. After finding the first organic frigate, the Dream Aerial does not need to be in the player’s inventory to encounter others, and it serves no further purpose as it no longer has the summoning ability that it did for the first one. Contrary to early rumors, it also does not have a “cooldown” period. Players can safely discard the Dream Aerial without consequence, or they can transfer it to another player who has yet to acquire their own and it will work for them.
If the player cannot afford the organic frigate encountered, they will not be able to interact with the Accept button. There does not seem to be any difference in appearance rate between classes – which is to say, S class organic frigates do not appear to be any more or less rare than A, B, or C class organic frigates. The pricing structure is as follows:
- S-Class: 37,500,000 – 62,500,000 units
- A-Class: 26,250,000 – 43,750,000 units
- B-Class: 15,000,000 – 25,000,000 units
- C-Class: 7,500,000 – 12,500,000 units
How many people does it take to crew a frigate?
During World War II, Great Britain revived the name frigate by assigning it to a small escort ship used to guard convoys from submarines. This vessel displaced about 1,500 tons, was capable of 20 knots, and was equipped with asdic, or sonar, and depth charges. In the guided-missile age, the frigate also has adopted an antiaircraft role, adding radar and surface-to-air missiles to its antisubmarine gear. Many frigates now carry helicopters to aid in submarine hunting. Such a vessel displaces upward of 3,000 tons, has a top speed of 30 knots or more and carries a crew of about 200.
For three decades after World War II, the U.S. Navy applied the term frigate to a type of escort ship that was somewhat larger than a destroyer. In 1975 these ships were reclassified as cruisers and destroyers, and the United States then used frigate in the same sense as most other navies.

How to send frigate on mission nms?
Once you’ve assembled the expedition fleet, you’ll see a star rating for it as a whole. You can send up to five frigates on an expedition. After selecting it and sending your fleet out, you can now head to the Fleet Command Room you built and speak with the expedition captain.
If you want to send out your frigates on more than one expedition, you’ll need to build another Fleet Command Room. You’ll need one for each ongoing expedition.
Fuelling Frigates. In order to send your fleet on expeditions, you’ll need to fuel the frigates. When selecting an expedition, it will show you how much fuel the selected frigates will consume. Remember, you can see how much fuel it takes to power a frigate when you purchase it.
No Man’s Sky now offers customizable difficulty options that allow you to ignore the fuel requirements of frigates. If you find harvesting enough Di-hydrogen to send your frigates on expeditions too tiresome, just head into the difficulty options and remove all fuel costs.
What happens to your frigates when you buy a new freighter?
Everything in your freighter base will transfer to the new freighter. Fleet moves with you, so does the squadron.
You’ve got enough warning that you should be able to move all general storage to exosuit or ship storage, depending on your inventory management style. You can also reclaim materials from breaking down the tech items – but leave the matter beam or it’ll be hard to collect.
You’ll still have all the blueprints purchased with salvaged frigate data, but need to build the parts again. Slots upgraded with bulkheads are lost. Upgrade modules need to be replaced.
Can you get more than one organic frigate?
You can only get one Organic Frigate per system. They do range in class the same as Derelict Freighters. Most of them will be C-Class, but you can find S-Class. I stumbled on an S-Class about 2 weeks ago and wasn’t using an Anomaly Detector, just a random encounter.
It varies by system, but as with everything else in the game that ranges from C-Class to S-Class, C-class is the most common.
There’s not really any good reason to care that much what class they are when you recruit them for frigates. It doesn’t take very many expeditions to rank up your frigates, and it costs you nothing. They’ll all be S-class soon enough, regardless of what class they are when recruited.
📹 How To Get Living Frigates In No Man’s Sky Endurance Freighter Update
How To Get Living Frigates In No Man’s Sky Endurance Freighter Update This is how to get living frigates in No Man’s Sky!
From what I’ve heard, to get another, you have to have this item in your ship inventory, and get it as a random space encounter. For best results, use the item that makes a space encounter spawn, and only stop your ship once you get the sign “Whale Song Detected”. You can only get one frigate per system.
The nature of the questions you were being asked sounded like it was trying to determine the TYPE of frigates they’ll be. Exploration, Support, Combat, Industrial and Trade. (Rather than just being “Other” as Leviathon was…) IE if you fired on the attacking vessle, it would lean to Combat. If you collected all resources on the planet, Industrial. Etc. Very cool and will be interesting to see the combos that could be made.
Can you imagine if something like the living frigate actually existed out there in space? A massive cosmic whale of some kind that feeds on gasses and solar energies to survive, drifting upon the solar winds as if they were sea currents, going into hibernation during voyages between star systems. Seeing how weird life can get just on our own planet, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like this is out there somewhere. Definitely going to need one of these space whales in my fleet.
🧐 The choices u made were identical to mine????? Just interesting in a psychologically pleasing way! Our morally kind human choices … or possibly a passive, subdued or weakened sense of rebellion and adventure… was I afraid of digital consequences ?? 😘 So couldn’t kill a Minecraft animal,if they were with an infant!! WTAF! Crazy! X Good vid 👍
I’m not sure about everyone else but there is a current glitch with the living frigates. I followed this and happen to come across to frigates back to back. The S class forget that I gave my left arm for doesn’t show up in my fleet registry. Submitted a ticket to hello games and have seen that others have had the same experience. Did a little searching and someone mentioned not doing this twice in the sameSystem
Hi guys, since the new update I was looking for the living frigate.(missed the leviathan expedition) Im glad to explain you how I got my second one a few minutes ago. “Anomaly detector” I used the dream aerial for the first one. Then I used 5 anomaly detector and found a new one. Cost me 200 000 000 units to buy it. Both are low class but Ill feed them soon ! Good exploration all, hope I helped somebody in that galaxy
On PS4 you can speed the missions up by changing your system time accordingly. Advance time however man hours the mission is, complete the debriefing to collect the loot, THEN restore your systemm time to the correct time. DO NOT RESTORE THE TIME BEFORE DEBRIEFING THE MISSION!!! This will ADD time to the mission counter. Happy hunting, interlopers.
I fed ship puply roots, from manage fleet thingy, (feed vessel) wont take any more.( insufficient nutrient variety, select different materials ) . anyone know what else to feed it.. and I have 3 more dream aerials but cant seem to obtain another ship. also does anyone know what psychonic eggs are as you can begin biogenesis and the one i did that to I got a wormhole brain implant. got more to open but no idea what they are for.
Actually you can change the class of the living frigate anytime giving it some food in the frigate status menu inside the freighter (I saw that it can be combat, exploration, support and another class with support like stats but its main feature is -0% mission time, looks useless to me). But further research is needed.
That… doesn’t really tell me how to get a living frigate :/ that just makes it seem as tho I have to just keep sending my frigates on missions till they get an aerial or whatever. So what I got from this is I just have a chance to get one of these things. And I’ve been playing every day, sending my frigates on missions and have yet to see one of these aerials. So if I can only get these by chance then I doubt I’ll get one any time soon
Stopped playing after completing Expedition 7 and came back after a few months. Doesn’t this update mean that Expedition 7 was a complete waste of time? Sure it’s cool that you can get whole fleets of these things now, but the entire point of the expedition was so you could unlock the organic frigate as a special limited addition to your fleet that you could only get by going through such an unforgiving challenge. But it just seems like it was a complete waste of time and effort now that pretty much anyone can go a grab one for themselves.
After some experimentation, I found a 100% method for locating space whale frigates. You must have the Dream Ariel and an Anomaly Detector in your ship inventory; ensure you have plenty of fuel to refill your pulse drive on the fly and cash to pay the whale. The Detector is consumed in this process, but you find one frigate per detector 100% of the time. Start pulsing towards absolutely nothing so you can go a long way searching. Activate your Anomaly Detector, and it will begin searching, then sit on your hands and watch. The Detector will find something, and you will have 20 seconds to exit the pulse and look at it. If the indicator says something like Deep Space Object DO NOT Exit pulse. After 20 seconds, the search resets, and within 5 seconds, the detector will pick up another object. Keep resisting the urge to stop and look until the detector shows either MegaFauna Detected or Whalesong or something like that, then you stop pulsing and inspect the living frigate. Seriously the most difficult part is collecting Anomaly Detectors. I suppose you might search without one, but the detector picks up an object every 25 seconds, whereas just pulsing, you might go a LONG time without detection. In testing, the longest it took was 14 detections, and the shortest was 3 detections before I spotted a space whale.
