Kroger, a major grocery chain in Texas, has announced that its senior citizen discount program will be discontinued later this month. The program, which initially offered 10% off one day a month to seniors, will now be 5 percent on Wednesdays. To access the discounts, customers must obtain a Kroger Plus Card and present it at checkout every Tuesday.
Seniors aged 55 and older can enjoy a five-percent discount every Tuesday with their Kroger Plus Card. However, the Kroger senior discount does not apply to items like cigarettes. Some big grocery chains, such as Safeway and Giant, do not have a corporate-wide senior day on the books, but individual stores may extend discounts. On August 2, those 55 and older can get a 10 discount on their entire purchase, though some exclusions apply.
Kroger’s Senior Day and Double Coupons programs will end on March 15th. The company aims to encourage customers to save every day, regardless of shopping day or time required to search for coupons. Kroger’s decision was communicated to customers through various channels.
In addition to the Cincinnati/Dayton division, Kroger’s Columbus Division also announced that customers 55 and older can save an extra 5 percent on their total in-store purchase on Wednesday. Older Louisvillians are encouraged to enjoy their Kroger senior discounts now, as the Senior Discount Program will soon be no longer available.
In summary, Kroger is discontinuing its senior citizen discount program for one day only on Wednesday, allowing customers aged 55 and older to enjoy big savings without the need for a Kroger Plus Card.
