Does A Snorkel Improve Mpg?

Snorkels can play a significant role in optimizing fuel efficiency by allowing cleaner, cooler air to enter the engine. This can improve power and MPG, which is similar to the effect of leaving the tailgate. A car snorkel is an add-on feature for off-road vehicles that prevents contaminant and water ingestion and raises the engine’s air intake. The snorkel draws in clean air by extending the air intake to the engine.

A vehicle snorkel is responsible for feeding air into the engine to complete the fuel combustion cycle. It does not prevent electronic components from shorting out or differentials and gearboxes from ingesting water, and it should not prevent fast-moving vehicles from running. However, the difference between a snorkel and fuel efficiency is negligible.

Snorkles can decrease power and MPG on an engine that uses a mass air flow sensor due to turbulence. However, they also provide additional benefits such as improved fuel economy and engine performance. In most cases, a snorkel allows the engine to breathe in a lot cooler air, which can decrease milage due to higher air flow.

A snorkel cannot improve airflow into the engine in any meaningful way, but it can restrict it when the engine is substantially modified. Therefore, it shouldn’t decrease fuel efficiency at all, but rather increase it.
