Cruise ships offer accessibility for passengers with disabilities, including wheelchairs and scooters. Most cruise lines have accessible public areas with large corridors, automatic doors, and special seating, as well as wheelchair-accessible staterooms with wide doorways and ramps. Royal Caribbean works with companies that can provide wheelchairs and cruise mobility services.
Cruise ships also provide an area for wheelchair users to watch onboard shows, such as front- and rear-of-the-theater wheelchair seating in the Royal. However, scooters and wheelchairs are not provided unless it is a medical emergency. Royal Caribbean works with companies that can provide wheelchairs and scooters for medical emergencies.
Upon booking your cruise, cruise lines provide a medical request form for you to declare any mobility needs, such as the use of disabled wheelchairs and mobility. They have made substantial modifications to their ships to make them easier to navigate. Accessible elevators are available at each elevator bank, equipped with both wheelchairs and other devices.
Cruise travelers can bring their own wheelchair or other mobility device onboard most ships. However, each terminal has a limited supply of wheelchairs used to transport guests on and off the ship, so they cannot loan wheelchairs for the duration of the cruise.
Cruise travelers can rent wheelchairs, hospital beds, patient lifts, oxygen concentrators, and more. To request assistance at the pier, contact the cruise line 30 days prior. Guests must either bring their own wheelchairs or make arrangements with a third party for the rental, delivery, and return of the device.
