Are There Public Bathrooms On Cruise Ships?

Cruise ships offer public bathrooms, which are typically located near large public areas such as the theater, major dining room, and pool. These bathrooms are usually kept clean and have a commode, sink, counter space, storage, and a stand-up shower. Most showers also include a small clothesline for drying swimsuits.

However, some cruise ship bathrooms get a bad rap due to their cramped size, clinging shower curtains, and insufficient space for toiletries. Most ships have around 1,000 to 2,000 bathrooms, with one private bathroom for every cabin on the ship and multiple public bathrooms on each deck. Public restrooms can be a lifesaver when your cabin mate has your private bathroom occupied.

Public bathrooms are full-sized showers and there are locations around the ship that have private onesie bathrooms for privacy. However, Carling advises cruise passengers to minimize public restroom use and wash hands with soap and water rather than alcohol-based handwash.

Communal areas on cruise ships have public toilets clearly marked on the ship signage and deck plans. For example, on Disney Wish, there are bathrooms close to each main dining location, elevator lobbies, and other amenities. Overall, cruise ships provide a convenient and clean environment for passengers to use their restrooms.
