The A-Class design has evolved over time to a single sail rig using a lightweight carbon mast of about 9 meters length and lightweight pentex or Kevlar sailcloth. The hulls and beams are often made out of carbon fiber, although homebuilt wood or composite materials are still seen on race circuits. The World Sailing International A Class Catamaran-Measurers Guide states that all A Division Catamarans shall have a valid measurement form for sail, mast hull, which is the ‘A class rules allow you to do anything as long as the total area, including the mast, does not exceed 150ft2. This area has traditionally seen the greatest developments in The International A-Class Catamaran (A-Cat). It has a length of 18, a 7.5 beam, a minimum weight of 165lbs, and a maximum sail area including the mast: 13.94 sq. mtr. (150 sq ft). No hydrofoils are permitted, leading to the fact that the A-Cat as a multihull has become Boat Specifications.

(150 sq ft). The boat’s measurements are simple box rules that measure length, width, weight, and sail area.
