Why Does My Jet Ski Fill Up With Water?

Jet skis can be filled with water, either during or after a ride. This can cause serious damage to the internal components and lead to costly repairs or even the need for replacement. To determine if your jet ski is filling with water, use a torch and inspect damaged or loose hoses. The engine or exhaust takes in water to cool itself, and if a hose is loose, it can dump it into the hull. Damaged parts can cause them to take on the jet pump, which propels the jet ski through the water.

If the jet ski is partially filled with water, it will still remain afloat. They are specially designed to float even when completely filled with water. If the drain plugs are left loose, water can accumulate in the hull, which is a metal box part of the exhaust system. If the waterbox is filled with water, it may be due to a bad seal on the main shaft or a loose compression fitting on a hose. It can also be that someone forgot to put the drain bungs back in.

If the jet ski is full of water after a ride, it may be a clue that it has a problem and needs to be inspected immediately. Check all the parts and ensure that the cooling lines are properly connected. If the water is not pumping into the hull, it may be due to an open drain plug or a leak in the cooling system.
