Who Started Carnival Cruise Lines?

In 1972, Ted Arison founded Carnival Cruise Line as part of a subsidiary of American International Travel Service (AITS), a Boston-based company. The company was initially a private venture, but Arison and Riklis set up the new company as a subsidiary to market and promote the new cruise experience. Since its founding in 1972, Carnival Cruise Line has grown to become the world’s most popular cruise line, carrying millions of guests every year.

Starting with just one secondhand ship, Mardi Gras, the company revolutionized the cruise industry by making vacation experiences once reserved for the wealthy accessible to everyone. Arison, an Israeli businessman who co-founded Norwegian Cruise Lines in 1966 with Knut Kloster, left to form Carnival Cruise Lines in 1972. Carnival Corporation, the parent company of Carnival Cruise Line and other great brands, is the global leader in the cruise industry, leading the way in innovative cruise technology.

Micky Arison, chairman of the world’s largest cruise ship operator, Carnival Corp, spent 34 years as CEO of Carnival, helping grow its fleet from two to over 2,000 ships. Carnival Cruise Line offers cruise deals and packages to popular destinations such as the Caribbean, The Bahamas, Alaska, and Mexico.

I am a school teacher who was bitten by the travel bug many decades ago. My husband Billy has come along for the ride and now shares my dream to travel the world with our three children. The kids Pollyanna, 13, Cooper, 12 and Tommy 9 are in love with plane trips (thank goodness) and discovering new places, experiences and of course Disneyland.
