Viking Yachts, a luxury fiberglass sport-fishing company, began in 1964 when brothers Bob and Bill Healey purchased Peterson-Viking Builders, a struggling New Jersey builder of 37-foot wooden sportfishing boats. The company has grown over 60 years and has become the largest manufacturer of luxury fiberglass boats in the New Gretna section of Bass River. Robert T. Healey Sr., co-founder of Viking Yachts, helped turn the company into an industry leader and led the fight that repealed the Federal Luxury Tax on yachts in the early 1960s.

Patrick J. Healey, president and CEO of Viking Yacht Company in New Gretna, serves as the connection between the family businesses. Healey is a perfectionist, fiercely competitive, and rightfully proud of the yachts his team turns. In 2016, Pat Healey announced that Viking had purchased the Ocean Yachts property on the nearby Mullica River to build its smaller models.

Healey is also a member of the New Jersey Boat Builders Association and chairman of the National Coalition to Save Jobs in Boating. Healey’s son, Sean and Justin, wanted to perfect the boatbuilding formula like their father and grandfather.
