Christopher Cross, an American singer-songwriter, released the soft rock song “Sailing” in June 1980 as the second single from his debut album, which was already certified gold. The song reached number one on the US charts and was later awarded an Oscar for Best Song with Arthurs Theme from the movie Arthur. Cross’ second album Another Page was also released in the same year.
Sailing, inspired by Chris’ boyhood memories of boating in Texas, was featured in the movie Arthur and the TV show Yacht Rock. The song surpassed Olivia Newton-Johns Magic’s Magic in the top spot and won Record and Song of the Year awards. In an interview with Songfacts, Cross discussed the writing and recording of his hit song Sailing, which was featured briefly in the 2006 animated film Flushed Away and played in season 12 episode 1 of Family Guy: Finders Keepers.
Cross has also released several other songs, including “Ride Like the Wind,” “Arthurs Theme,” “The Watch,” “Ambulance,” and “The Fresh.” His most notable songs include “Sailing,” “Ride Like the Wind,” “Never Be the Same,” and “Say Youll Be Mine.”
In addition to his music, Cross has also appeared in movies and TV shows, such as “Full Moon,” “The Watch,” “Ambulance,” and “The Fresh.” His tranquil classic evokes sailing on the open sea, leaving any troubles on the shore.
