Which Is Bigger Titanic Or Cruise Ship?

The Titanic, a massive ship that held 3,353 passengers and 900 crew members, was considered a mid-size vessel when compared to modern cruise ships. Modern cruise ships are on average 20% longer and twice as tall than the Titanic, with the Symphony of the Seas being the largest cruise ship in the world. The Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, is about five times the size of the Titanic and spans 20 decks.

The Titanic was considered more luxurious than many modern cruise ships, but it would be considered a mid-size vessel holding 1,500 to 2,499 passengers. Modern cruise ships are generally larger than the Titanic, but there are still smaller vessels. The Icon of the Seas, designed by Royal Caribbean Cruises, is about five times bigger than the Titanic, with a gross tonnage (GRT) of approximately 248,663. As of November 2023, the largest cruise ship in the world is Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas, but Icon of the Seas will surpass her in January 2024.

Many modern-day cruise ships are more comparably sized to the Titanic, but only by about 20-30%. The Icon of the Seas is reportedly five times the size of the Titanic and even has its own waterfall. Designed by Royal Caribbean Cruises, the Icon of the Seas is expected to launch in January 2024 and claims to be the world’s largest cruise ship.

Comparing the Symphony of the Seas to the Titanic, Royal Caribbean’s biggest ship categorically dwarfs the Titanic’s size in every way, more than doubling its size. The Wonder of the Seas holds 8,000 passengers and is substantially larger than the Titanic, boasting 20 decks and a capacity of 1,198 feet (365 meters) long and 250,800 tons.
