Where To Start Canoeing Dordogne?

The Dordogne River is a popular destination in Southern France, known for its beautiful canoekayak routes. Starting from either Girac or Carennac, you can choose between 9, 15, or 25 km routes to enjoy the breathtaking view of the château as you paddle towards the charming village of Montvalent. The river is 483 km long and has six departments crossed, making it difficult to know where to start.

Keen canoeists should start at Argentat, where the river is faster with lesser crowds. From there, the enchanting scenery includes picturesque villages like Beynac, La Roque Gageac, and Domme, as well as local flora and fauna near Bergerac. Children under 7 and non-swimmers are not allowed on canoes.

From Vitrac to Beynac, it takes around 3 hours to canoe, and there is a shuttle back to the launch point in Vitrac every hour with Canoës Loisirs. From Thonac to Tursac, it takes roughly ten days to paddle downstream. The Dordogne River offers an ideal setting for sightseers, adventurers, and beginners alike.

Aquafun Canoes Dordogne offers short tours starting from 5km from places like Le Buisson or whole day routes from La Roque. The Dordogne Valley also offers beautiful pebble beaches between Vayrac and Souillac, as well as key sites such as the Chateaux of Beynac and Castelnaud.

In summary, the Dordogne River is a popular destination for canoeing enthusiasts, offering stunning views, picturesque villages, and easy-to-follow routes.
