Yorkshire has excellent rivers that cater to flat water paddling to Grade 3 white water. The extensive network of canals and rugged coastline offers fantastic canoeing instructor-led experiences in Yorkshire and the Lake District. Guided river trips for all abilities in open canoes are available.

The Standedge Tunnel, located in West Yorkshire, is the longest, deepest, and highest tunnel in the region. There are also several sailing and kayaking options in the area, such as Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre in Leeds and Underbank Activity Centre in Sheffield.

Access to Thruscross, like Roundhay Park Lake, is limited to members of the White Rose Canoe Club, which is for kayakers. Other popular rivers include the Wharfe and Washburn, which are only open at certain times.
