The docking location for cruise ships in Mykonos depends on the number of vessels visiting the island and the size of the cruise ship. If docking at the New Port, which is located around 1.5 miles from Mykonos Town, the cruise ship will drop anchor on a large bay in front of Mykonos town and tender passengers to a pier by Mykonos downtown. This pier only has space for one large ship or two smaller ones.
There are two options for cruise ships calling at the port: docking at the Mykonos New Port, which is approximately 2.5 km1.5 miles (a 10-minute drive), or docking at Tourlos Port, a small coastal village about 1.5 miles from Mykonos Old Town. The path to Mykonos village, also called Hora or Chora, has no real sidewalk, so passengers should take the shuttle service. The Port de Mykonos Cruise Terminal is usually located there.
When visiting Mykonos, passengers will likely have to tender to shore, a fancy cruising term for when a ship anchors near the shore and takes passengers to the pier near the main attractions. Larger ships typically dock at the new port in Tourlos, about 2km from Mykonos town. If it’s a busy day, your ship might anchor offshore. The cruise ship if docked is about 3km away from the town center. Some people do walk it, but it is not recommended as some areas have no real sidewalks.
The Old Port Mykonos, also known as the Tourlos Port, is the main Mykonos port for cruise ships. Larger vessels anchor in the bay and their passengers are tendered ashore by boats. Most cruise ships dock at the New Port in Tourlos, while the Old Port is right at Mykonos Town, while the New Port is a couple kilometers away in the Tourlos district of the island.
