Where Did The Titanic Start Sailing From?

The RMS Titanic, a British ocean liner, sank on 15 April 1912 due to striking an iceberg during its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City, United States. The ship, operated by the White Star Line, carried an estimated 2,224 passengers and crew, with 1,496 deaths. The Titanic was launched from the Harland and Wolff shipyards in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on 31 May 1911. The ship was built using 300 frames covered with steel, and it sank off the coast of Newfoundland in the North Atlantic. Over 1,500 of the 2,240 passengers and crew lost their lives in the disaster.

The wreck of the Titanic was discovered by a French and American team on 1 September 1985 in 12,500 feet (3,810 m) of water about 350 miles (531 km) southeast of Newfoundland. The Titanic, nicknamed the Millionaires Special, was initially built in Belfast and set sail from Southampton’s White Star Dock on April 10, 1912. The ship was the largest ocean liner in service at the time, and it was four days into her maiden voyage when it struck an iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland.

On 11th April 1912, the RMS Titanic dropped anchor in Queenstown, Ireland at Roches Point outer anchorage, now known as Cobh. Many people believe that the Titanic’s voyage started directly towards New York from England, but in reality, Cherbourg served as her first stopover. The wreck remains a cautionary tale for those who have lost loved ones on the Titanic.
