Where Are Legacy Yachts Built?

Legacy Yachts, founded by Freedom Yachts of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, has gained a strong following among boating enthusiasts in North America due to its product and design philosophy. The brand began in the early 1990s with the Legacy 40 sedan, designed and built by one of the most successful sailboat builders in New England. The Legacy brand is known for its speed, performance, and efficiency, and is now on the cutting-edge of boat building.

The Legacy Powerboats, first introduced in 2010, are semi-custom and can be built in various configurations and interior layouts. The Legacy 32 and 42 were acquired by Tartan Marine Company in 2010, which moved the molds and tooling to its Fairport Ohio manufacturing facility. The Legacy Superyachts, originally built by Westport in the United States, are a 34.14m superyacht built by Westport in 2003.

Tartan Marine Company recently acquired the assets of the Tartan LegacyAMP operation in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, which has a 60-year history of designing and building boats. The Legacy 12 was originally planned to be built at the Tartan facility in Fairport, Ohio, but manufacturing was moved to the MMG yard in Tampa, Florida.

The Legacy brand has a strong following in the boating industry, with the Legacy 40 sedan, Legacy 32, and 42 being built by Westport Yachts in Italy and delivered in 2021. The Legacy 12 was initially built at the Tartan facility in Fairport, Ohio, but manufacturing was moved to the MMG yard in Tampa, Florida.
