Where Are Carver Yachts Made?

Carver Yachts, a well-established and expert shipyard, has been producing luxury cruising yachts for over 60 years. The company began in 1954 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Charlie Carter and George Verhagen started building custom mahogany boats as a hobby. Over the years, Carver has grown into a leading brand in the pleasure boat industry, with models ranging from 18 feet to 57 feet.

Cruisers Yachts parent company KCS International recently purchased the former Carver and Marquis yacht facility in Pulaski, Wisconsin, where Carver and Marquis yachts were previously built. The company offers several lines, including Mariner, Voyager, Nuvari, and Marquis, most of which are produced at its Pulaski, Wisconsin plant. A smaller number is built in Fano, Italy, for sale in Europe through a partnership with Italian yacht-maker Dominator.

Carver Boats was originally founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Georgia, and their boats have always been in line with American standards. However, Carver and Marquis were closed in summer 2021 due to the acquisition of KCS International’s extensive Pulaski manufacturing facilities. The news on the street suggests that Carver and Marquis are no longer making boats, with Cruisers taking over the facility and focusing on the motoryacht movement.

Did Carver Yachts get sold?

Over 100 of the 65 Motor Yachts were built from 2005 to 2008 in Pulaski, Wisconsin. Carver was acquired by Marquis-Larson boat group.

Carver was a yacht builder located in Pulaski, Wisconsin, in the United States.

Carver Yachts was founded in 1954 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, when Charles “Charlie” Carter and George Verhagen started building mahogany runabouts in a factory on South 27th. The popular myth that they started building boats in the backyard garage is not true. They were both long time marine industry people that decided to build boats rather than sell them through Carter’s two marine dealerships in Green Bay and the Fox Valley. The pair later sold the business in 1963 to business partners Walter “Wally” Markham and Glen Nordin, both of whom had worked for Cruisers Yachts of Oconto, Wisconsin. Under their leadership the then-called Carver Boat Corporation transitioned to fiberglass based construction and expanded from a regional boat builder to an international company with worldwide sales.

In 2004 Carver started the Marquis Yachts line, which began with the 59 and 65 Motor Yachts. Over 100 of the 65 Motor Yachts were built from 2005 to 2008 in Pulaski, Wisconsin.

Where are Carver boats manufactured?

Carver Boat Corporation LLC is a leading American builder of motor yachts. The firm’s luxurious, fiberglasshulled boats range in length from just over 30 to more than 60 feet, with prices starting around $300,000 and rising to $2 million or more. Carver offers several lines that include Mariner, Voyager, Nuvari, and Marquis, most of which are produced at its huge Pulaski, Wisconsin, plant, with a smaller number built in Fano, Italy, for sale in Europe through a partnership with Italian yacht-maker Dominator. The firm is a subsidiary of number two U.S. recreational boatmaker Genmar Holdings, Inc.

BEGINNINGS. Carver Boat Corp. was started in 1954 in a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, garage by Charlie Carter and George Verhagen to build high-speed mahogany runabouts. Fusing the first three letters of each of their last names, they christened the new company Carver. Their earliest boats were sold to friends, but as sales began to grow in 1956 the pair decided to move operations to the small Northern Wisconsin town of Pulaski (just west of Green Bay), which had good transportation links and a motivated workforce.

During the 1960s Carver expanded its offerings to include “flying bridge” designs and cabin cruisers, larger boats with enclosed living quarters. In the 1970s the company switched to building its hulls out of fiberglass, a strong but lightweight material that was easier to use than wood and more durable in the water. Its adoption enabled boatmakers to increase output and reduce labor costs, and Carver soon began to offer larger models, with the 32-foot Mariner becoming a top seller. Carver built the boats, but sourced components such as engines from outside manufacturers like Mercury Marine.

Who builds Carver Yachts?

Expanding beyond the great lakes and encompassing the world, Carver was acquired into a much larger family by Genmar Holdings in the 1990s. In the 2000s the Voyager models made their debuts, with the flagship 570 model become one of the most popular Pilothouse yachts on the market. Building on the Pilothouse style, Carver began production of the Marquis Class of Yachts in 2003 and has become one of the nicest premium boat brands to date.

Which country builds the best yachts?

NORTHERN EUROPE. The Northern European countries are especially known for building fully custom and semi-custom motor and sailing yachts. The Netherlands and Germany top the yachting industry for delivering yachts over 50m with large volume and a high value. German builders Lürssen, Abeking & Rasmussen and Nobiskrug deliver full-custom yacht projects, while Dutch builders like Amels/Damen Yachting, Heesen and Moonen build high-end semi-custom yachts based on model platforms. In the full custom category, Feadship, Oceanco and Royal Hakvoort specialize in the construction of full-custom motor yachts, while Royal Huisman delivers made-to-measure sailing yachts. Both custom and semi-custom yachts built in Northern Europe tend to keep a far higher resale value on the brokerage market. Thanks to their high-quality finish and extreme levels of customization, it’s fair to say that these yachts are akin to floating works of art.

Among Northern Europe’s production series yards, Sunseeker, Princess Yachts and Pearl Yachts offer motor yachts between 17m and 40m. These directly compete with Southern European yacht builders. Among the Mediterranean countries, Italy and Turkey are the two main producers for semi-custom and production series yachts up to 50m. Most Italian-built yachts are made from GRP and often form part of a branded series for yards, examples of which are Sanlorenzo, Custom Line, Ferretti, Benetti, Arcadia Yacht, Maiora, Falcon Yachts and Amer Yachts.

ITALY. When it comes to speed, Italian builders, such as AB Yachts, Tecnomar, Azimut, Mangusta, Leopard Yachts, Riva and Pershing, excel in planing and open vessels. But over the past decade, a flurry of new yacht builders has entered the market delivering lager yachts and more customizable options that rival heritage builders like Baglietto, Codecasa and ISA Yachts. Perini Navi remains one of the most exclusive sailing yacht builders offering performance and style, but when it comes to innovative design solutions, Columbus Yachts, Tankoa, Cantiere delle Marche and the revival of Admiral brought have risen through the pack.

What boat does Jeff Bezos own?

Koru is a luxury custom superyacht owned by Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. The vessel was built in the Netherlands by Oceanco starting in 2021, and delivered in April 2023. It is a three-masted sailing yacht 127 meters (417ft) long and reported to have cost $500million or more. When commissioned, the yacht was the second-largest sailing yacht in the world, after Andrey Melnichenko’s Sailing Yacht A.

In 2022, Rotterdam announced that the city’s historic De Hef bridge would be temporarily partially dismantled to allow the yacht to pass through. This move was controversial because the bridge is a Dutch national monument owing to its history. Eventually the dismantling plan of the ‘De Hef’ bridge proved to be unnecessary. The masts were stepped when the vessel was moored downstream of the bridge in the Rotterdam Harbour.

A 75-metre (246ft) 1,900 Gross ton yacht support vessel, the Abeona, will “shadow” Koru, providing additional crew accommodation, a helipad with enclosed helicopter accommodation, and capacity for relief supplies.

Why did Bayliner stop making Cruisers?

The world’s largest boatbuilder cited changing global trends and the fluctuating needs of boat buyers for the move. “Our current plan reflects a change in focus for Bayliner’s global product portfolio to emphasize and expand its leadership across a broader set of recreational dayboat craft types,” Graves says.

Are Carver Yachts still being made?

Carver no longer makes yachts. The company closed its doors in 2021. However, you can still find a wide array of used Carver Yachts for sale on the brokerage market.

Carver Yachts was sold back in 1985 by Miramar Marine Corp, which eventually evolved into Genmar Holding, Inc. However, after filing bankruptcy in 2008, Genmar Holdings was auctioned off in 2010; Irwin Jacobs and John Paul DeJoria (J&D Acquisitions) purchased Carver and Marquis Yachts for $6.05 million. They formed the Marquis-Larson Boat Group — which consisted of six boat brands — Marquis, Carver, Larson, Larson FX, Larson Escape, and Striper. In 2018, Polaris acquired the assets of most of the Larson Boat Group companies aside from Marquis and Carver, but in the summer of 2021, both Marquis and Carver Yachts shut down for good.

Carver Yachts are considered to be seaworthy boats in calm seas. Many boaters argue that Carver Boats are great coastal boats but don’t outperform in offshore waters.
