When Will Singapore’S Tourism Industry Reopen?

Singapore has announced a dramatic relaxation in its travel restrictions, allowing all fully vaccinated travelers to enter the country without pre-departure testing or quarantine. This move is a result of the country’s successful efforts to control the Covid-19 situation. As of next week, cross-border travel restrictions will be eased substantially as the situation comes under control.

From 1 April 2022, all fully vaccinated travellers from any country or region will be allowed to enter Singapore, quarantine-free, provided they have not been in the country. Singapore will significantly relax COVID-19 safety measures but will also continue to take a “measured approach” to opening up. The country will gradually reopen its borders with safeguards in place to allow Singaporeans to conduct essential activities abroad and for foreigners to enter and transit through the country.

Singapore has announced the reopening of its borders to travelers from eight more countries, allowing fully vaccinated individuals to enter without the need for entry approvals. Vaccinated Travel Pass (VTP) applications for these countries will open on 13 March 2022 at 1000 hours (Singapore time).

Singapore is open to all fully vaccinated travelers without quarantine, including non-fully vaccinated individuals. The Land Transport Ministry will launch the new Vaccinated Travel Framework from 1 April. From 13 February, all travelers can enter Singapore with no entry approvals, pre-departure tests, on-arrival tests, quarantine, and COVID-19.

How long is the lockdown in Singapore?

The Singapore government implemented restrictions on gatherings of more than five people due to new Variants of Concern (Delta and Omicron) from 8 May 2021 to 29 March 2022. Two separate lockdowns were conducted from 16 May to 13 June 2021 and 23 July to 9 August 2021. However, high-profile individuals, such as Phoon Chiu Yoke, refused to comply with the circuit breaker regulations throughout 2021.

  • Singapore needs to protect Singaporeans by reinstating PCR tests and quarantine for people coming in from China. Please do not kowtow to the Chinese political pressure and money greed at the expense of Singaporeans. To be fair, start reporting cases again to bring awareness to heighten precautions. Influx of tourists is going to be bad for Singaporeans as it will drive up inflation further. I am also predicting that there will be Chinese tourists absconding from their tours or refuse to return to China using all possible ways to escape China at the moment….

  • The Government should not look at the Chinese tourist dollars as the infection numbers/deaths coming out of China is so doubtful. Instead Government should heightened its surveillance & put extra measures on testing requirements for inbound travelers from China just like other concerned countries. It’s best to be safe than sorry.

  • China’s no barriers opening up when it have unmanageable Covid cases is not ethical to all other countries. Hope MMF, HSA, MOH, & ICA should immediately roll out ART tests upon arrival & at least 3 days quarantine complete with daily ART tests for passengers arriving from China. As for passengers from other counties, they should be ART tested upon arrival and on 3rd & 5th day of arrival. Also institute ART test between 6 – 12 hours before departure flight time.

  • 🙏As travel resumes, try to bring along some hand sanitizers or disinfectants in your checked baggage when you’re travelling overseas. Try to ensure that the weight does not exceed 0.5 litres or 0.5 kg per article and 2 litres or 2 kg in total. For cabin baggage, the usual 100ml limit for liquids will apply. Try to practice good personal hygiene. Try to sanitise your hands regularly when you cannot wash them with soap. Try to disinfect your WC toilet seats before use. There are options like water-based pocket-size hand sanitizers, disinfectant spray guns, and antibacterial dishwashing liquids. ECOSAM supports low-wage families and sponsors NDP 2022. Take care and thank you all.🙏

  • Even if there is a new sub variant of China origin, it will still be a weaker virus. Given high vaccination rate and well over 3 million local infections to-date, Singapore will be ok. Actually ditto everywhere else. We used to make health declaration when traveling stating if we have been to an (say malaria) infected area, this now makes no sense since everywhere is infected including where one is traveling to.
