What is the newest ship for Carnival 2027?

Carnival Corporation and Meyer Werft announced they have reached an agreement to build another cruise ship for Carnival Cruise Line.

The ship will be a sister to the Carnival Jubilee, which was delivered in 2023, and is scheduled to be delivered in 2027.

“We are very pleased that the partnership between the Meyer Group and Carnival Corporation is being continued with this new order,” said Bernd Eikens, CEO of the Meyer Group.

“This order is a clear sign that the cruise market has recovered and that there is great demand for sea trips,” added Thomas Weigend, Chief Sales Officer of the MEYER Group.

Will Carnival ever recover?

The share price doesn’t tell the whole story. It took three painful years, but Carnival’s business has rebounded. The company ended 2023 with $21.6 billion in revenue, roughly on par with 2019, the year before COVID-19 turned the business upside down.

At first glance, something seems amiss in the below chart. The stock still trades at a fraction of its pre-pandemic share price despite revenue recovering fully.

Why is that? Carnival had to take drastic measures to keep the business afloat when lockdowns virtually reduced revenue to nearly zero. After all, the company has overhead, even if ships aren’t sailing. Shares were issued, and debt was incurred to raise the cash needed to keep Carnival alive and see its recovery through.

What is the future of Carnival cruise lines?

Carnival Corp. plans to roll out three massive ships beginning in 2029, part of a new ship class at Carnival Cruise Line.

The ships are each expected to carry almost 8,000 guests at full capacity, measure 230,000 gross tons and have more than 3,000 guest staterooms.

By comparison, the Carnival Jubilee, it’s latest new Excel-class ship, is 183,000 gross tons.

Carnival inked the deal with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the trio of ships, which will be powered by liquefied natural gas. These will be the largest ships ever built by Fincantieri or in Italy.

Is Carnival Cruise going to recover?

Demand for cruises is still hot. Carnival demonstrated an incredible recovery last year, as expected. Now it’s keeping up its solid performance as it fields high demand, with record revenue and improving profitability.

The 2024 fiscal first-quarter (ended Feb. 29) results surpassed expectations across several metrics. Revenue was a record $5.4 billion, 23% higher than last year. It had record first-quarter deposits of $7 billion, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) net loss improved from $693 million last year to $214 million this year.

Management had previously said that it was coming into 2024 in its best booked position ever, and it’s already in a better position for 2025 than it was for 2024 at this time last year. It has limited inventory for the rest of the year, pushing out bookings from strong demand into a longer curve at higher ticket prices, setting itself up for a strong start to 2025.

Carnival is still experiencing high demand as a pushback from lockdown, and that’s not going to last forever. The current increased demand illustrates consumer confidence in Carnival as well as high overall interest in its product, indicating an enduring business model that can withstand short-term challenges and bounce back. Five years from now, demand is likely to be completely normalized, but still strong. In other words, it should be similar to its pre-pandemic performance.

Is Carnival launching a new ship?

Carnival Cruise Line is going bigger than ever before with a new class of ships. The cruise line will welcome the first of the three new vessels in the summer of 2029, each with more than 3,000 cabins and a full capacity of nearly 8,000 guests.

Will Carnival have a new ship in 2025?

The company’s announcement also includes plans for Carnival Cruise Line to strategically grow its fleet over the next three years.. Carnival Cruise Line released three brand-new cruise ships for its Excel Class between 2021 and 2023. Following the success of this class, Carnival Cruise Line has only released plans for building one additional new cruise ship in 2025 and none in 2026.

In the announcement, Carnival Corporation’s CEO clarified that its new cruise ship would be its only newbuild order for 2027. Weinstein stated, “Our responsible capital approach will support utilizing our substantial free cash flow over the next several years to strategically improve our balance sheet, significantly reduce our leverage levels and continue to transfer value from debt holders to shareholders,” stated Weinstein.

Starting in 2027, Carnival Corporation plans to expand its fleet capacity with one to two ships per year. According to Weinstein, the new ships will be allocated to the cruise lines that most need the additional capacity to “satisfy outsized demand.” With this approach, Carnival Corporation will be able to deliver an attractive payback period on its investment. Considering the financial distress caused by the global pandemic in 2020, Carnival’s strategy is hardly surprising.

Why are Carnival cruises so expensive right now?

Renewed importance of booking your cruise in advance. With the record demand Carnival is seeing, inventory is selling out further in advance, leaving guests with fewer cabin choices, higher prices, and fewer last-minute deals.

Not only does booking early help ensure you get the best rate, but you also have more time to save up for the cruise.

When you make your reservation, you only have to place a deposit, rather than pay the entire fare upfront. The final payment date varies based on the duration of your sailing. For cruises 5 nights or less, it’s 76 days before sailing. It increases to 91 days prior to sailing for cruises 6 nights or longer.
