When Did Rod Stewart Song Sailing?

On 5 April 1982, the British task-force sailed out of Portsmouth Harbour as the recording of Rod Stewart’s Sailing was broadcast from the quays public address system. The song was originally recorded by the Sutherland Brothers on their Lifeboat album in 1972 and written by bassist Gavin Sutherland. The song took listeners on a metaphorical journey through stormy waters and high clouds to a desired destination.

Sailing was released as a single on Rod Stewart’s Sixth album Atlantic Crossing, reaching the top of the charts, being 1 Number Hit on the UK charts. The song was originally produced by the Sutherland Brothers on their popular Lifeboat album in 1972. The lyrics of the song describe a person sailing home, longing to be near, and flying like a bird.

The song was first recorded by the duo in a June session in 1972, with Gavin playing bass drum and playing bass drum. The song was released on various albums, including Swing Fever, The Tears Of Hercules, Cupid, Youre In My Heart, and Youre In My Heart. Iain Sutherland and his brother Gavin recorded the song in 1972 before it became a worldwide hit for Sir Rod.

Sailing is a cover of the Sutherland Brothers song, featuring acoustic guitars, mandolins, and fiddles. The song reached the top of the charts in the UK in 1975.
