What To Bring First Time Kayaking?

When preparing to kayak or paddle board, it is essential to bring basic essentials such as a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and proper paddling techniques. For longer trips, more items will be needed, and it is crucial to join a kayaking club if you don’t have anyone who shares your interests.

Key items to pack for overnight kayaking trips include a kayak paddle, personal flotation device, bilge pump, spray skirt, dry bag, bilge pump, first aid kit, small backup paddle, dry container for cell phone keys, wallet, and duct tape. A first-aid kit is also essential, and should be stored in a waterproof bag clearly marked.

A properly fitting PFD is crucial, and temperature-appropriate clothing is essential. For a warm outfit, you can wear a swimsuit, swim jammers, or swim leggings, or a spring suit (warm weather wetsuit). For those who provide a boat, it is essential to provide proper clothing for a comfortable and enjoyable kayaking experience.
