Disney Cruise Line ships depart from various ports in Florida, including Port of Miami, which is located about 8 miles from Miami International Airport (MIA) and 25 miles from Fort Lauderdale Airport (FLL). The port is known for its stunning beaches and diverse cultural offerings. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call. The Port of Miami Cruise Terminals are home to Disney Cruise Line and MSC, Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, and P O Cruises.
The cruise terminals are approximately 50 minutes from Melbourne International Airport, 1 hour from Orlando International Airport, and 30 minutes from Ports of Departure. To reach the Port of Miami, all vehicles must enter via Biscayne Boulevard. It takes about 45 minutes to get from the Fort Lauderdale airport to the Port of Miami, but with traffic, that time can be even greater.
Guests who did not complete their online check-in in advance or do not have a Port Arrival Time should plan to arrive after 2:00 PM. They recommend arriving as close to 12:15 p.m. as possible. If they arrive before their Port Arrival Time, their transportation will depart closer to 9:30 a.m. However, this is subject to change.
The earliest port arrival times are in the 11:00 a.m. range, depending on the boarding group’s arrival time. The ship sets sail at 5:00 pm and returns to port at 6:00 am, with disembarking starting as early as 7:30 am. Buses are more time-consuming and can take about two hours to arrive at the Miami cruise port.

What time does a cruise arrive back to port?
Often, Royal Caribbean ships return to port in the early morning, around 6:00am or so. Just because the ship returns at this time, does not mean it is ready to let passengers off the ship. A couple steps need to be completed first:
- The ship must dock at the pier and be tied up properly.
- Local officials must inspect and clear the ship
There is no set time how long each of those steps can take, and that is why answering the question of what time someone can disembark the ship is so difficult. Moreover, the inspection by local officials is completely out of Royal Caribbean’s hands.
Disembarkation process. There are two main groups who can disembark from a cruise once it is over: guests carrying their own luggage and guests picking up their luggage.

Is this a recent change on when I can check in?. DCL has tinkered with check-in timing several times during the past few years.
Pre-pandemic, Disney Cruise Line offered staggered check-in dates, based on your DCL Castaway Club status or whether you were sailing in a Concierge level stateroom. From the return to sailing during summer 2021 through April 2023, check-in opened prior to sailing for all guests at 30 days in advance. In May 2023, DCL returned to a staggered date program.
Where is the port arrival time on a Disney cruise?
On the Disney Cruise Line website, locate your reservation under Already Booked My Reservations. Navigate to the Online Check-in section and click on the highlighted blue text to access your check-in information. Your Port Arrival Time will be displayed at the end. Additionally, there’s an option to either print or email your Port Arrival Form to yourself. I like to save it on my phone and present the digital image to the Disney Representatives upon arrival.
Remember to pack your day bag with any essential items. When you hand over your luggage to the porters, it will be delivered to your stateroom later in the day. I always include a swimsuit, cover-up, and sunscreen in my carry-on. Once on board, enjoy lunch at Cabanas and embrace the wisdom of Timon and Pumbaa from “The Lion King” by adopting a Hakuna Matata attitude. It means no worries and a carefree approach to enjoying every moment of your cruise adventure.
Well, that about covers it; your Disney Cruise Line adventure is full steam ahead!

What is port arrival time?
When you complete your Disney Cruise Line online check-in, you’ll be asked to choose a Port Arrival Time. Port Arrival Time is exactly what it says – the time you are supposed to arrive at the port. Please note that this NOT the same as the time that you’ll be allowed onto the ship.
When you arrive at the port terminal, you will have a number of steps to complete before you’ll be allowed to enter your vessel. You’ll have to park (if you’ve driven to the port), check your luggage, get your boarding and identification documents checked, and possibly complete other tasks such as registering your child for a youth club or undergo a health check if there were concerns about your pre-boarding questionnaire. After these tasks are completed, you’ll wait in the terminal for your boarding group to be called.
While your boarding time will be within an hour of your Port Arrival Time in the vast majority of cases, you need to know the difference to help you plan your first day on board. For example, you shouldn’t make a spa appointment at your Port Arrival Time, because you won’t be able to make it. And knowing the difference between Port Arrival Time and Boarding Time can help you plan whether you might need to have snacks on hand for a cranky child.

My family enjoys getting as early a port arrival time as we can. We like to get on the ship and head to lunch once we are onboard. That is how we know that we have truly started our amazing Disney sailing! On the lovely Disney Wish, this would mean heading to Marceline Market, which offers extensive and varied fare in a food-hall style dining experience.
On embarkation day, we are also sure to carry on any items that we need for the day. Your luggage will arrive at your stateroom later in the day, so you need to be sure to pack anything that you need for your first afternoon on board in your day bag and carry it on. For us, this often means swimwear as we love to hit the pool on that first day – sometimes before we even pull out of port!
