Paris’s culinary specialties include crisées, macarons, baguettes, and croque-monsieurs. It is spread with jam, eaten as a sandwich, or dipped in the sauce of a good dish. What is easy to get to from Paris?

Belgium is another easy day trip from Paris. It’s so close that you can take either the bus or the train to get there. Flixbus can get you up there cheaply and they always leave from Paris’ Bercy Seine bus station. This bus station is mildly sketchy and entertaining to get to, but you can’t beat the price. Alternatively, the Eurostar train will get you there a touch faster and in style. Trains leave from Paris’ Gare du Nord train station.

I did two one-day trips to Belgium, first to Bruges and later to Brussels. Brussels has the wow factor, with ornate gold buildings, shopping, fountains, parks, and so on. Bruges, while small, has a far better chocolate selection and an adorable boat tour that gives you a new perspective on the town. I also did a chocolate-making class in Bruges, more on that in another post!

The best time to go is in the fall to see the colorful leaves!

I am a school teacher who was bitten by the travel bug many decades ago. My husband Billy has come along for the ride and now shares my dream to travel the world with our three children. The kids Pollyanna, 13, Cooper, 12 and Tommy 9 are in love with plane trips (thank goodness) and discovering new places, experiences and of course Disneyland.

  • I recommend Supermarket Souvenirs! One thing I like to bring back is sea salt which you can get in a grinder for just a few euros. You can also find all sorts of candies, cookies, and chocolates you may not be able to find at home. And the grocery store may have gift boxes of chocolates and high end teas too, making it one-stop shopping. Monoprix has reusable grocery bags in different designs which many of my friends at home love to receive, and they’re only about 2 euros (last time I was in Paris).

  • We got soap, chocolates, cookies, a handmade bowl/knick knack, and a canvas painting. Paris is a great place for souvenirs! I kept the soap, bowl, and painting and gave out the chocolates and cookies to friends. To me, finding unique and handmade things on my trips is a special challenge that I love. 🙂
