The 2023 Ocean Globe Race (OGR) is set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original 1973 Whitbread Round the World Race, marking the first fully crewed race around the world. The race, originally named after British brewing company Whitbread, has been held every three or four years since 1973. The race started from Portsmouth in 1973 following the route of Clipper ships and was the first fully crewed global yacht. The Ocean Race Atlantic is set to launch in 2026, featuring mixed crews and a strong ocean health component as teams race between two iconic cities.

The 2023-24 Ocean Globe Race (OGR) is a fully crewed, retro race in the spirit of the 1973 Whitbread Round the World Race, marking the 50th anniversary of the first race. The race has been known as the Whitbread Round the World Race (1973-2001), the Volvo Ocean Race (2001-2019), and the Ocean Race (Upcoming 2021-2022).

The 2023-24 Ocean Globe Race will feature mixed crews and a strong ocean health component as teams race between two iconic cities. The race is also known for its sponsorship by British brewer Whitbread, which led to the creation of the first fully crewed global yacht, Neptune, designed by André Mauric. The OGR marks Translated 9’s triumphant return to Auckland, marking the 50th anniversary of the Whitbread Round the World Race.
