What Happened To The Girls From Hold Fast Sailing?

In the film True Spirit, viewers are introduced to teenage Jessica Watson aboard her SS 34 Ellas Pink Ladyon, attempting to become the youngest person to sail alone around the world at just 16. A violent collision with a 63,000 tonne cargo ship off Queensland leaves the yacht dismasted, and both Watson and her family ashore shaken. The couple met in 2011 during an Australian sailing race called the Sydney to Hobart Campaign, and they started dating shortly after. Cameron was just 29 when he died.

Hold Fast, a documentary released in 2007, tells the story of a skinny white guy named Moxie Marlinspike who dreamed of taking off for the equator, fixing up an old boat, and sailing it off into the sunset. Thirty-five years ago, the yacht Maiden, with the first ever all female crew, rounded Cape Horn in the Whitbread Round the World Race and secured their place in history. The girls were tough without having fullback tattoo jobs and shouting obscenities every other word.

Moxie Marlinspike created the documentary Hold Fast, where he and two friends buy a derelict boat (probably should have been free) and sail from Florida. The film follows Suzanne Heywood’s harrowing journey as she attempts to sail 23,000 miles. The film stars Titans Teagan Croft and is based on the book of the same name. The girls hold onto him until his admiration for her among his fellow townsmen as a selfish grasp amounted to absolute infatuation.
