Is Oceania a luxury cruise line?
Oceania Cruises feature a splendid blend of intimate luxury and unparalleled style leading guests toward a sense of personalized comfort. From their 450+ destinations to their wellness-inspired spa and vitality center, here are some hallmarks to expect from an Oceania cruise.
Awards: Oceania has been chosen as the Best Overall Cruise Line by Cruise Critic, Boutique Cruise Line of the Year by Food & Travelmagazine, Best Onboard Dining by Travel Age Westmagazine and Best Premium Cruise Line, by Virtuoso.
Unique ship features: With suites and staterooms of generous dimensions, nearly 70 percent of which feature private verandas, Oceania’s cabins possess an esthetic on par with world-class hotels. This includes the exclusive Ultra Tranquility Bed, marble and granite-clad bathrooms and shower.
What is the average age on Oceania Cruises?
Among major ocean cruise lines, Holland America Line also attracted an older passenger base, with an average age of 64. The luxury brand, Oceania Cruises, had an average age of 64.1. Cunard cruises, however, had an average age of just 60.5 due to its specialisation in traditional cruising. Ultra-luxury brands also catered to an older crowd, with the average age of Seabourn passengers at 66.3 and Regent Seven Seas at 62.4. Silversea Cruises, however, had an average age of just 59.5.
Passenger age varies by destination. Interestingly, passenger age variation doesn’t just differ according to cruise line – it varies by destination as well. According to the CLIA 2018 Global Passenger Report, short and close-to-home cruises are more likely to attract younger passengers, whereas cruises with longer itineraries and exotic destinations tend to attract older cruisers. An exception, though, is Canada and New England cruises, which are close to home for many U.S. cruise passengers and tend to be relatively short, averaging at under ten days, but still, attract an older demographic of cruise passenger.
Transatlantic and world cruises are particularly popular among an older crowd. This is likely because retirees/pensioners have more time to spend on a long cruise. Family-friendly destinations such as the Caribbean, the west coast of North America, Australia and the Mediterranean have the lowest average ages and the shortest average voyage lengths. The rise in popularity of short, close-to-home cruises has made cruising more affordable and accessible than ever, even for families with limited resources – which has resulted in lower average ages for passengers on these itineraries.

Oceania Cruises was founded in 2002. The company chartered the former Renaissance Cruises ship R Two from Cruiseinvest and renamed her Insignia in October 2002. Is Oceania owned by Royal Caribbean?
Oceania Cruises – Final Grade: “C-” Headquartered in Florida, Oceania operates six cruise ships and is a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings which is incorporated in Bermuda.
Grading Methodology For The 2022 Cruise Ship Report Card. Friends of the Earth’s Cruise Ship Report Card ranks 18 major cruise lines and 213 cruise ships — AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruises, Cunard Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, Holland America Line, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Oceania Cruises, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Royal Caribbean Int’l, Seabourn Cruise Line, Silversea Cruises, Viking Cruises, and Virgin Voyages — according to four environmental criteria: Sewage Treatment, Air Pollution Reduction, Water Quality Compliance and Transparency.
Sewage TreatmentTo determine a cruise line’s Sewage Treatment grade, we compared the number of cruise ships in the cruise line that have installed advanced sewage treatment systems (AWTS) against the total number of ships in the cruise line. Ships with AWTS have been downgraded from As to Cs since 2020 because no companies publicly report on the performance of those advanced systems.
Air Pollution ReductionTo determine the Air Pollution Reduction grade for each ship in a cruise line, ships that dock at a port and plug in to available shoreside power hookups were graded. In addition, ships were given credit if they utilize low sulfur fuels continuously worldwide at levels lower than required by international law. Use of scrubbers is not considered since the significant majority of scrubbers in use by the cruise industry simply convert air pollution emissions into water pollution through their scrubber wastewater discharges.
