Do you still need a Covid test to travel to the Philippines?

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted a new quarantine system in the Philippines. Travelers aged 15 and above must have received the second dose of the 2-dose series or a single dose of the vaccine more than 14 days before their departure. If they are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, they must undergo a remotely supervised/laboratory-based Rapid Antigen Test 24 hours before their departure from their country of origin or first port of embarkation.

If they fail to present a negative pre-departure testing, they must undergo a laboratory-based Antigen Test upon arrival at the airport. Minors below 15 years of age who are not vaccinated must follow the quarantine protocols of their parents or accompanying adults. Any inbound traveler who tests positive for COVID-19 through a rapid antigen test will be subjected to the latest prevailing quarantine and isolation protocols of the Department of Health.

Debbie Green

I am a school teacher who was bitten by the travel bug many decades ago. My husband Billy has come along for the ride and now shares my dream to travel the world with our three children. The kids Pollyanna, 13, Cooper, 12 and Tommy 9 are in love with plane trips (thank goodness) and discovering new places, experiences and of course Disneyland.

  • I’m a native born Filipino based here in Las Vegas. Your appraisal and comments about the Philippines is “fair and balanced”, and I’m sure many foreign travelers to the Philippines, as well as the people of the Philippines, would find would find your comments very helpful. Thank you for your comments and God bless you both!

  • This is the reason why many Filipinos are like tourists in their own country. You would be surprised that many of us have not seen the whole country because of the expenses needed to travel around islands. If you want to experience the coldest place in the country, try going up north to Baguio City, which is the country’s summer capital.

  • Im a filipino but living in ireland now & i love being subscriber of every vloggers that goes to philippines ( that is why i’m one of your subscriber😀) i think before travelling you need to know about the country you will visit & learn how the lifestyle & cost of living as well & that might save you monetary wise. Wifi ? Every country has problem on it, even here in ireland if you will visit a isolated place you will tell to yourself why i went there?🥴& bcoz of the pandemic plus the war from ukraine-russia & inflation😩everything goes high😫(except my hieght😁) it just so happened you travel on different situation. Anyway we thank both of you at least seeing philippines. We appreciate the happy moments of it. Stay happy & blessed.

  • I’m a Canadian born in the Philippines. I totally agree with you about the expensive Wi-Fi and the cost of traveling. Most of it is because of the duopoly they have going on there. They don’t allow outside airlines and telecoms companies in, so the companies have no incentive to improve their services as there is no other competition. They should introduce short inter-island flights between the major Philippine islands like Cebu, Panay, Negros, etc.. That would cut traveling costs because people don’t have to fly back to Manila every time they want to visit another beautiful island. That would be a win for local Tourism as well. That said, I actually think we have the same problems here in Canada but it’s getting better with the new budget airlines coming in. It still has some room for improvement here though. I wish the Philippines government sees this article and look into improving the country’s infrastructure, especially in the provinces. It should be a priority for countries that rely so much on tourism.

  • That is right. Even here in Manila, wifi is slow and cutting in and out. Use mobile data when uploading😅, try it. It’s way better than wifi. I always hear from a lot of vloggers that they’re struggling for wifi here. Hope the government should consider this including the accomodation. It’s really expensive here but not that so quality. Even boarding houses, expensive too. So sad for those employees earning minimum wage, it sucks. That’s why poor people remain poor and rich people get richer. Can u imagine, monthly salary here is very low but we pay more for accomodation? ☹

  • i’ve got to say, i live in the US. Going to PH for vacation is really affordable for me.That being said, I have no comparison experience with other places like Thailand or Vietnam. I recently travelled to PH and did notice my Grab transportation went up from last time. Still, I am not wealthy, but things just cost more in the US. My lifestyle is definately cheaper in the PH. But the internet does suck in PH.

  • People should not travel if they cannot afford and always remember you got what you paid for! If stay at BGC or high class hotel you have to pay more than airbnb or hostel, if you eat at high class restaurant you have to pay more instead of eating at local carenderia which is kulas favorite place to eat, you have to do research and planning before you travel instead of whining so many things you dont know about Philippines my advice to both you watch kulas becoming pilipino vlog you will learn a lot from him.

  • I absolutely agree with you about the comparatively exorbitant cost of accommodations and airfares in the Philippines. I’m Filipino and live in the U.S. and have been going home almost every year, sometimes 2-3 times a year. I’ve also traveled extensively in SE Asia for work and find your observations spot on. There is so much more competition from local and international hotels and air carriers overseas that pushes prices down. With monopolies in many industries in the Philippines, there is no need for hotel and airlines to lower prices and offer a better product.

  • I appreciate your article because it is honest and frank. Being a Filipino-American, I just spent the whole month of June there, and I entirely agree with your “7 things”, especially #7. Wifi is spotty. I was pretty fortunate to stay in some nice hotels and only there was I able to hook up to the internet well. Did not do any uploading though.

  • Great feedback, thank you. It would be also interesting if some time you could give a run down on every island you visited and the characteristics or features of them? Assuming each one is a little different bfrom eachother. For example, I like hiking or bushwalking along different trails and have no idea what place would be best for this?

  • Even us Filipinos travelling to beaches are planned ahead of time as ticket and accommodation are expensive. So it will take us months to prepare tickets, accommodation. Maybe it’s expensive in the Phils as more islands are separated and maybe to minimize travelling in that islands like El Nido, Boracay, Coron, Siargao.

  • Had to lower our expectations as well when fortunately we get to travel to Europe (Milan and Luzern, Australia even) as now we found out there’s no perfect place. With the recent facelift and upgrades in the economy and certain cities all over the Phils, yes, pls expect also an upgrade in the cost of living. Gone are the days of merely a developing country or island life. Hello to paradise and modern metropolis.

  • Accommodation is way too much for what you get here in PH. Glad we found Holiday Ocean view in Samal Island for only 2,500 a night, you get the condo and oceanview. Internet is not available here hahahaha PH is not suitable if you need fast internet… and the food here in Samal island is very low quality and the serving time is 1 hour up hahahaha hard to get everything you want on a holiday

  • For the beach lovers: Visit El Nido, Coron, Ticao Island, Tablas Island, Dinagat Island, Boracay, Tubbataha Reef, Kalanggaman Island, Sambawan Island, Cresta de Gallo Island, Balabac Island, Romblon, Camiguin, Malapascua For the city slickers visit: BGC (ultra modern), Calle Crisologo Vigan (16th century), Baguio City (mini Europe) For the hikers you climb: Mt Pulag, Mt. APO, have lunch on top of an active volcano Mt Pinatubo, Mt. Guiting Guiting AND the long list goes on For the Cavers: the biggest caves in Asia are located in Samar, Philippines Desert lovers (yes we have a desert here) and rock formations😂: Visit La Paz in Ilocos ; kapurpurawan Rock; Masbate; Biri ; Nagpatong Rock Hotsprings and coldsprings: Maquinit in Coron; Lake Agco long list goes on The cleanest rivers: Sibuyan Island Waterfalls Pagsanjan Falls, Catandayagan Falls (this rare waterfalls drops into the sea); Maria Christina Falls and long list goes on ❤❤

  • Good news for you, a lot of these problems regarding accommodation / travel expenses and etc. will be soon corrected. The Philippines has a new head of tourism secretary Christina Frasco, and she’s quite possibly the best, most qualified one yet. The DOT has a masterplan in infrastructure, price regulations, etc. So expect massive changes, like real soon.

  • Since the Philippines has 7,641 Islands, that means lots of Beautiful White Beaches especially in the Visayas and Mindanao Provinces, tho Luzon has a few White Beaches as well. When it comes to Hiking, Trekking, Canyoneering and Island Hopping, aside from the Visayas and Mindanao, Palawan is a must. Palawan has been Voted by many International Travel Agencies as the Best Island in the World. And Millions of Foreigners/Tourists can attest to it. The Philippines is now at the Top on International Tourism. “It’s More Fun in the Philippines”.

  • If you want everything to be like it is in the west, then stay in the west, I left the UK to retire here 13 years ago and have no desire to go back. As for accommodation, it is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be, the big plus of the Philippines is the people, I live in Dumaguete on the island of Negros and the locals here are so friendly and ready to make conversation. I couldn’t care less about the rain, Brit’s are used to lousy weather even in the summer, at least the rain is warm here..😀 and there is plenty of sun to be had all year round. I came here to escape the madness of the west and I feel much safer here, so that’s my pitch for what it’s worth…

  • yeah, island hopping — plan it so it’s close to each islands not hop from one side to the other side, food — yeah.. loving the bbq, english — my thoughts, since we get taught english (before 1987, it was spanish), we get taught english at a young age, but my thoughts would go to, as you get older, you loose it because it’s not as used as the local and national languages (filipino + regional language). chopsticks – we use hands hahaha.. austronesians… ever tried using the coconut shell as your bowl/rich holder yup that’s us.. you won’t see it as much but we used to use them.

  • I felt sorry for the spotty internet of my beloved country. It’s true when it comes to wifi you have to not expect much good about it especially if you go far from the city. It’s still trying to improve but hopefully it will be resolved soon 😅! It’s true also about the mosquitoes 🦟 when it’s raining season. Always be prepared for mosquito repellent😅. But still, it’s more fun in the Philippines 🇵🇭❤ and it’s cheaper compared to other countries. You just have to be alert. Be informed ahead! My husband and I still chose Philippines 🇵🇭

  • Interesting. We stay mostly in MetroManila when we go to the Philippines so I didn’t experience the problem of the internet. You’re right about the internet when we went to Coron. We did use Smart there also but we bought both sim card. We also bring Off Repellant but the mosquitos don’t care and still bite us

  • Yes I agree with planning ahead… Accomodations and transport most especially. when you do your research you might also used all available options like on the internet yeah? but i would say ask the locals instead or try to post something on your wall on where you are heading next so yeah locals or we as your followers will suggest/recommend for you.

  • Mandy Collab with ur fella Canuck Kulas of Becoming Filipino (Kyle Jennerman). He is one of the many successful YouTuber in the Philippines that is now permanently residing in Davao. Most of the very successful YouTubers in PH are permanent residents and some became Filipino citizens. They have been in PH for a long time and their websites are very consistent with regular daily followers. Millions of Filipinos work and live overseas. Mostly America, Canada, Europe, and Australia and these are premium pay from YouTube. Financially these PH YouTubers are well off. The Hungry Syrian wanderer (Syria), Making it Happen (Austria), Finn Snow (Iceland/US), Kumander Daot(UK), Right miles from home (UK), Emy and Johan (Sweden), Martin Solhaugen (Norway), Micro, Terre, Bella(Italy) just to name a few. They have been consistently vlogging at least 3- 5 x week. How do they do it ?

  • You have so much luggage using a motor bike is hard if you pack light travel light, then motor bikes the way, ferry crossing on a barge fliat ferry is cheap, say your in dumaguete there’s 8 islands of there, 30 min to 40 min crossings bike 2 person average about $ 15.40aussie per crossing so cheap great place to dumaguete to base yourself, cheaper accommodation, and the island of negros, is huge can spend months exploring there, also you can get an visa extension there with good visa agents helping you out, 😀

  • We visited Philippines in 1982 of December and hotels in Manila even with Airline discount was 45 US Dollars and 40 Dollars in the province and your saying 41 US Dollars in this Pandemic and year 2022 is expensive….try going to Carribean country if you can find a decent one for 41 Dollars…in the outback of Australia in this Pandemic what can 41 Dollars get you

  • The only good internet here is wired, even then some areas have dismal wired connection. Mobile data is 15megabits and upwards in a lot of urban areas, but there are data caps like $1 for every 8gb for 7 days, in 5g areas you can have unlimited mobile data for $15 for 30 days. The philippines is expensive compared to bangkok in thailand, I’m filipino and we love spending holidays there cause food is cheaper and more varied, transport is cheaper and the metro rail is great, hotels are cheaper, cheap clothing is very good quality, and mobile data is amazing.

  • Wait till September when they start playing Christmas music Everyware, you’re going to love that All the Ber Months in the Philippines it gets festive you will start hearing here come Santa Claus September 1st. The Philippines is like a melting pot of all the Asian country’s you will see Chinses Filipinos, Japanese Filipinos, Korean Filipinos, Spaniard Filipinos Exc….. All Awesome people and soooo welcoming & caring I love the people of the Philippines they are family!!!Also the reason everything is in English is the US had a big military presence from the large base back in the Clark AFB also English is taught in schools as one of the two official languages of the country, PS: if you like Buffets (check out Vikings in Davao) or anywhere you can find one. 😁 Have fun stay safe!😉

  • Thank you so much guys that yur all opinions about phil..but you know guys i want to say this to you guys, before pandemic is all are cheap even the foods, accomodations, travelling but now because of pandemic are all huge or very expensive..i hope may be to return in a normal situations the all..price of foods, and everything important needs of people..?

  • FYI: Lil History Lesson – Philippines was part of America from 1898 – 1946. (after American won the Spanish war). During WW-2 Japan invaded China, Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Indo china, Singapore, Burma, Thailand and many other countries including Philippines Where they killed many Americans and later attacked Perl Harbor in Hawaii and declared war on America. Atom bomb on Japan ended the World War-2 and that

  • if the philippines had perfect wifi then the remote tourist attractions like palawan would be overrun by tourist and foreigners. Some of the best properties in islands are owned by Westeners who married local women. Balance has to be attained, to maintain the beauty of nature. Tourism sometimes ruins it.

  • Hello, I want to visit the Philippines soon. I will be doing so for one month. I’ve never travelled out of the USA. I have no clue how anything works. Am I supposed to exchange currency before I leave my country or can I do it in the Philippines? Can I use my credit cards in the Philippines? Do I need a visa or visitor visa to visit Philippines? Do you need to quarantine if you haven’t been fully vaccinated? I am absolutely lost at travelling somewhere new. Any help with these would be appreciated or somewhere I can get all of this information. Thank you!

Transportation is different now – we have multiple etranspo, like ecars, ebike everytwhere 3. We speak and write better English than you, you come to other places — TRY TO LEARN 2. we are friendly at most and frienfly and friendly 1. • Hi..thank you and you are still in our country..hope you are enjoying every bit of it…Mandy, the reason why you feel at home in the PH,maybe because you are a filipina reincarnated haha didn’t you know that you’re habits of smiling and giggling things off even if its a not so nice experience is very filipina.haha Filipinos in general laughs-off even when they are in times of crisis which foreigners finds as a good trait….but also i want to remind you about bad traits of Filipinos which i as filipino dont like is when they are staring at you..if you notice they are staring then just look away..dont mind it..i do it even if im a filipino qho was born and raised here..because i dont like being stared at also…i find it weird and rude…But in general Filipinos are a nice and cheerful people,….so just dont mind those staring at you guys..i know Aussies (Lloyd) dont like being stared at too! I stayed in Australia for quite a while too..have a great day guys. Cheers!🍻🙌🏝

  • They should have a strong internet connection in the Philippines, Co,’z all the technical support by phone is in the Philippines. All these big tech companies from the US all tech support is located mostly in the Philippines. And they should have the same plan for mobile phones like the one in the US and if they can bring all the cellular stores and phones in the Philippines it will be really good, or the one from Japan too 🤗👍

  • Its alright i feel your concerns but that’s alright its Normal to feel that way nothing is perfect, we need to find a way to adjust you know i’ve been perusal lots of foreign vloggers here in the Philippines and most of them handled problems it pretty well, they can adopt quickly like its a normal thing .. like The travelling Clatt, KEiS One, Dasuri choi, Sylvia, the Juicy vlog, make it happen, hungry syrian, bisayang hilaw, the Finnsnow, Dorca, Becoming Filipino, The Ahern family, Dustin backpacks, Rodvids family and more I can see rushing in new foreign vloggers .. anyways you’re welcome my friend Lloyd& Mandy next month is the “BER” month meaning its Xmas already in whole of Philippines.. god bless

  • Really interesting info. I think in the Philippines they like the rest of Asia are trying to stop low rent backpackers and digital nomads.unfortunately they don’t spend enough and don’t usually get proper life insurance. Holidays are different but I understand the reason why you feel it’s too expensive.Thailand is changing its views on d nomads since the end of the pandemic too. Not enough money coming in .

  • FILIPINOS doesn’t travel island to island…lol because it can be expensive. Rainy season month, it rains by time to time. Typhoon doesn’t affect the whole Philippines…. Philippines for me, the natural beauty is amazing just choose which island you want to stay. Philippines have the best beaches in the world to offer.

  • Hello Lloyd & Mandy my friend try to visit beautiful places in the Philippines, explore Boracay Beach in Malay, Aklan, it is claimed to be the best beach of the world. (Check it out in YouTube) There is a direct daily flight from Manila, Cebu going to Caticlan Airport in Boracay Islands. BEST THING TO DO IN BORACAY ISLANDS. 1. Island Hopping in Boracay Islands, it is full of white sandy beaches, blue indigo waters and dreamy sunsets. Known to be unexploited paradise. The stops often includes the beaches of Lapus-lapus, Ilig-iligan, Crocodile Island & Magic Island. 2. Visit Puka Shell Beach in Boracay, it is located in Yapak, Malay, Aklan, tricycles and boats going to Puka Shell Beach can be hired from White Beach. 3. Ariel’s Point is the most popular for the 15 meters high diving boards where adventure junkies can leaf off to the clear waters below. It is located in Batason, Buruanga, Aklan, purchase a ticket from Ariel’s house in Station 1 where the boat leaves to Ariel point. 4. • Yo do have problems in English go to Japan, Thailand Malaysia or any the Asian countries. Philippines 🇵🇭 Has UK and American Commercial Sign all over the country. You complaining it’s more expensive?????on Hotels and Restaurants. Why don’t you go to Japan 🇯🇵 and how you’ll pay hotel’s accommodations same category you have in you country.

  • Manila has many stray cats And more of philipines is poor than reach philipines product is cheap You can buy burger in 1,000 times Without breaking bank you can use these burgers to feed poor peapole with it. Internet in philipines is okay for Filipinos even piso wifi so weak wifi that you have to use money for time is super usefull for us philipines has much nice relaxing islands i just share shis for some informations visit our country If you want

  • Very accurate article! As a Canadian married to a Filipino I can 100% agree. Especially regarding the accommodation and travel within the country. Having traveled extensively around SE Asia the accommodation is much better value for money in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam. Highly recommend travellers take this into consideration when planning the length of your stay in said countries. As well, travelling from island to island the price can really vary if they perceive you as a foreigner, meanwhile if my husband (Filipino) made the arrangement it would be much cheaper. 😅 Great informative article guys!

  • Dear lloyd and mandy. Good day to you. Other than weather, there is something which is similar to indonesia and that you cannot control. Earthquakes and volcanoes. Weather to me is more or less same for each year. Like autumn, winter, summer, spring. Monsoon, typhoon season etc etc is more or less there yearly. Just what category, we do not know. With satellite it can be forecasted. But not earthquakes or volcanoes.

  • “apparantly Philippines is the only country in Asia that doesnt use chopsticks” This is so hilariously false, it has no end. At best, we can say, that, “Philippines is the only country in EAST ASIA, that doesnt use chopsticks” but Asia is a whole lot bigger than East Asia, China isnt the definition of Asia, so everyone doesnt have to copy their sh1t and follow their lead, they arent the oldest country in Asia, so them as a template isnt necessary, Im glad Philippines isnt following them in alot.

  • Just Wondering why in the article title picture ( DONT GO IN THE PHILIPPINES?) Philippines and American have history too, many American people is living in the Philippines American and Philippines is friendly country and helping each other that’s why Philippine people is so easy to speak English, and in the school like kinder to elementary to college too many subject is English more than Philippine language, if you meet more pilipinos over there they are really fluent in English,

  • Hmmmmm…..!!!!! To most of you Vlogger or whatever! Specially foreigners who are used a lavish lifestyle! Here’s a thing that you should or must do before you regret it Please don’t come to my country if you’re not prepared for it! Just stay the country where you’re happy with a high speed Wi-Fi or Internet! And stop comparing our country to the other country!. ‘Couse we’re totally different than the rest! Go back to those countries that you mentioned earlier. Making a content for regret! Isn’t it good feedback for us being a Filipino! Thank you 🙏. If you’re not happy then leave!. That’s just as simple than making blah blah blah 😑

  • If Philippines was anywhere near as overhyped as Thailand, making people recklessly come to the country off of more or less “forced influence” and a whole lot more tourists were just jumping off the bridge to go to Philippines cause we put other countries down to get you to pass on places and go to Philippines instead; all the stuff you said would be a problem maybe. We that love Philippines that are foreigners dont approach hype of Philippines anywhere near as much as Thailand lovers hype it, we arent necessarily pushing people to go there like other countries in SE Asia’s fans do, we just tell people it is a place we love and we exude energy that people can feel how we feel about it, we leave it to the potential traveler, unlike others. Thay is why I dont hype Philippines, Ill be honored to tell people how much I adore it, but I wont strongly recommend it to a traveler friend of mine wanting to go to Asia or somewhere, incase they are “disappointed” that is why I hope we never hype Philippines, I dont want travelers going there to “find out” what the hype is about, leads to articles like this, not a bad one of these articles though like some that seem to be straight up, pre bias Philippines haters.

  • Actually if u did ur research then none of the 7 things will surprise u 🤣 everyone knows our wifi sucks. All the vloggers knew that. Travelling will be hard cuz we have thousands of islands. So u have to have a plan n not wing it. If u do then of course everything will be expensive. Everyone speaks english cuz we rank 4th in the world. N if u noticed almost all the signs r in english. We only have 2 seasons, wet n dry so u just have to come here when its dry. Why should all asians use chopsticks? This one is just too .. 😄. We r very americanize cuz we got colonized by the americans. Did u know that we r the only catholic country in asia hence the churches? Guess not. RESEARCH IS THE KEY.

  • Thanks anyways … You guys should have checked first before going to the Philippines instead of comparing the country to another. its unfair. each country is different from another. based on costs of living, language barriers etc guys its incomparable. you guys are just a promotional leverage not just vloggers who wants to enjoy the country. thanks nways

  • You are a nomad so you should not worry about the internet in the Philippines you can move tomorrow in other countries. It’s also a test to many foreigners wether they love a particular countries it’s because of the fast internet speed or they love the country it’s because the people are nice, the culture is lovely and the prices there is cheap compared to other countries islands. If the accomodations are expensive then I think they are testing the foreigners wether they want to go to that islands or going to other countries it’s because pHilippines also want to control the tourist population visiting in that islands.
